hey i just downloaded the beta for Microsoft office 2010..
i was wondering what you guys thought about it?
did you notice any major changes, because i didn't

Depends what you mean, Major Changes from the Tech Preview to the Beta or from 2007 to the Beta?

just downloaded full 2010 it installed fine, went to outlook to test mail, I had left 2007 intact it had removed because only one mail accont never gave that option, would not connect to internet outlook 2o10 did system restore back to 2007 ultimate I will hold there till it is out, second time outlook 2010 screwed with my install. Word and power point work fine, I use outlook for calander and appointments. Short of it I was not satisfied

I'm using the 64 bit version, just Excel and Outlook.

Outlook is working fine, but will not hold the ribbon customizations, they keep re-setting themselves.

Excel seems ok, but I had a few problems printing from the "print preview" selection - wouldn't print, program stopped working, etc.

I have to keep reminding myself this is a beta when these little annoyances happen.

When I first installed 2010 I was not at all happy with the "washed out" colors, seemed too blah to me and I thought the other software was going to pick on 2010 for being sissy like.

After using the programs for awhile, my tired old eyes now like the not-so-bright tint. I have a solid black desktop, Win 7x64, and set office 2010 to black also.

All in all, I like it and am hoping it is RTM'd on TechNet before my 'script runs out.

Hi there

Outlook loads and runs fine

Don't forget you can get rid of the large ribbon (same as 2007) with CTRL+F1 in the office apps like word etc.

Colour customisation is done via the main File menu -- options.

So far so good. XML format fine, as is new ones and of course the 97-2007 and other format compatability.

EXCEL Macros run fine also.

Haven't tested ACCESS yet. VISIO and Project 2010 also good as is Power point.

Me too on x64 and liking the black theme for Office (Outlook) and hoping Technet gets the final version before my script runs out next August. After a little period of adjustment, I find overall I'm liking the new version of Outlook more than 2007. Working well here except for a few minor non critical glitches now and then. For example, I don't see the new mail indicator icon in the system tray even though I have it set to display and have set system tray "customize" to show icon and notifications. Not a big deal though. I like the way Outlook is a bit more customizable than before in certain respects, but they could have gone further in this regard, imo. Nevertheless, it is an improvement.

There are significant changes in Microsoft Outlook...which is the Office application that I use the most.

#1). It has ribbon bar
#2). It sorts and presents everything (by default) in conversations.

I'm not yet sold on the conversation option...I personally feel that it's going to result in lots of email posts simply being missed as people didn't scroll down to the bottom of the thread and read it backwards. Of course, as an Exchange admin, the concept of "Cleaning up" based on thread is great for keeping mailboxes within Quota limits...but not forcing users to delete something they may feel they need later. With this cleanup option...they can have their cake and eat it too.

The other thing that will result in some oddities is the "Ignore Conversation" concept. While I understand the point, we all deal with the office person who responds within some other converation and changes the subject. In the event that I "ignored" the conversation because I am uninterested in today's lunch plan...I might miss the off-topic work related question posed to me inside of the thread. Also, I don't like the fact that when you look at deleted items, you cannot easily discern those conversations that are being ignored...at least I haven't figured out how to without highlighting it and seeing if the "ignore conversation" button is highlighted.
