Hello,

I have windows 7 home premium and put the wrong activation key into microsoft office 2007, the registry recent used in vista doesn't appear to work in windows 7 as there is no 'Registration' key in the HKLM for office/12.0

Any ideas before having to re-download it and reinstalling it?

Regards

The above method has been tried by the thread starter. The problem is, there is no Registration key under HLKM.

I would suggest a re-install.

If dreams is correct then try to repair the office install. Try the following methods.

1) Go to Control panel->Programs and features->add/ remove programs.

Click on Office 2007 entry, then select Change.

Click on Repair, click on Continue.

2) Click the Microsoft Office Button, and then click Program Options (Program means name of the program such as Word).

In the Navigation Pane, click Resources.

Click Diagnose.

Click Continue.

Click Start Diagnostics.

Are you able to open and use all programs of office 2007. If not, I would say the install is corrupt and you can try what Bill has said. If everything works fine, then a re-install would do the trick.

Hello, It loads each application of office 2007 up and it flashes up with the 'Activate or Purchase' options but i really cannot be bothered going through the process of reinstalling it hahahaha I think I will have to do a clean install, it was soo much easier to reset this in Vista. Thanks for the reply :) Regards Craig

When it invites you to "activate", can't you just go there? Else go into e.g. Word Options > Resources > Activate

Yeah I tried that, It takes me to a page where it begins to connect and then says that it failed because the key was invalid or was not correct. Same thing when I click on Activate manually through the resource menu. Kinda strange, Regards Craig

This seems to confuse craig.

Initially u said, you entered the wrong key and need to rest it. This means, the key was accepted.
Now office prompts you to enter the key again, and when you did, it says invalid. This means, the key itself is invalid.

I sugg you to contact the support and check for what the key is valid.

Sorry if I have confused everyone,

I got a new laptop and it came with the trial version of office 2007 home and student, I entered my key I had used on my other laptop however little did i know that it wasn't the valid one, I was supposed to use the one from my pc that was valid.

It asked if I wanted to install all the features and I clicked 'Install'

After it restarted it said "Would you like to activate now" and then said that if i didn't activate after 14 uses it would be disabled so I clicked 'Activate'

Its at this point that it said the key was invalid and would not let me change the key.

Every time I open an application of office 2007 it asks to activate and then gives the error message.

In vista I would have normally went into the registry and reset the key from there but I'll have to re install it now

Regards

Do check whether the key you have is an OEM

The key that i entered and shouldn't have was used on several other pc's i owned so i knew that i couldn't use that one, but of course i never marked down what key that was.

Its ok now, i reinstalled office and used the CORRECT key and it seems to be fine, a bit strange how you can't reset office if you used the wrong key.

Thanks again

Regards
