Microsoft Outlook 2010

I cannot open Outlook 2010. I get the following message:
Users\User\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook\Outlook.ost is not an outlook data file (.ost) What does this mean? How can it be corrected

Rename the .ost portion to .pst and try to reopen it.
