perhaps its more a reflection of the economical climate than a reflection of MS doing badly.
seems Apple took a hit too.

Hi there

Again people here just don't understand how the market works.

Investors base their risk and strategy on what the FUTURE is likely to hold rather than what they did last year etc etc.

Windows 8 in spite of a bit of "Schadenfreude" which seems apparent here (not surprising on a W7 Forum though) has actually not been doing too badly in the sales stakes and with new phones / tablet like devices coming on stream the future isn't too bad - especially with an investment into DELL as well.

Our "Favourite Fruit Company" has been totally CRUCIFIED by the markets in the last few days in spite of being the 2nd largest business (by sheer dollar worth) on the planet -- only EXXON MOBIL is bigger !!!.

The market has correctly surmised that with Steve jobs gone and the Ipad / Iphone market saturated currently - in spite of the volumes of sales over Xmas Apple's future prospects aren't that rosy - since the next expansion area is in emerging markets where much cheaper (and often "cooler looking" ) products from the likes of Samsung will swallow these markets up better than Apple.

Of course with the sheer cash volume APPLE has it won't go out of business quickly but Market analysts do struggle to work out where the NEXT tranche of growth is coming from.

Ms has all sorts of income streams and by getting into hardware partnerships it (although late to the party) could just become a significant player in the mobile market.

The real Achilles heel of Android is yet to come -- as people want to use smart phones for more and more business transactions the security would have to be beefed up no end -- Android security if it exists at all is a JOKE - especially when used on a publically accessible Wifi system (such as in Bars and Cafes) rather than through the actual communication providers 3 or 4G network.

If I had to do any say online banking or online purchasing using a phone I'd only CONSIDER doing it with a Windows 8 phone -- even though I really enjoy the Samsung Galaxy IIIs.

Once the handsets get tarted up a bit (The latest Lumia isn't too horrible) and people start using online banking with their smart phones I'd expect the W8 phones to start making a serious competition into the market place.

I'd sleep much happier in my bed if I were a CEO at Ms rather than one at Apple.

Cheers
jimbo

I agree, people simply do not have the money to go out and buy the latest technology, in the UK we may be even heading into a triple-dip recession.

i've made it a rule to do things like that on my PC only , nothing is so important that it can't wait till i get home to my much more secure windows PC as apposed to doing it on my phone while out and about.

then you need to start using firewall apps and some virus protection

I have made many purchases through my phone and it's the same protocal just be mindfull of where you shop and how you pay and most of the time if you do your Banking or shopping on the web it's through trusted sites

It's when you have all these malicious programs installed and mostly crap the user doesn't understand is where they have a security breech because those are the little buggers that trasmit all your info to the bad guys

Hi there
It's not the trusted sites that are the problem - but things like "Drive By" infections - especially when on public Wifi systems can do all sorts of things without you having to download or INSTALL ANYTHING. Even on a properly protected Windows system a computer can become infected with this type of attack.

There isn't as yet any decent real time A/V protection on Android like W7 / W8 has.

I Re-iterate -- Internet security on a smart phone when using public Wi-Fi systems is either a joke or totally non existent - and it's even more risky now with Banks saying the CUSTOMER has to prove that they've been defrauded rather than before where your money if it was removed from your account by transactions you didn't do was paid back pretty quickly.

This has NOTHING to do with trusted sites or reputable places to shop from.
I'm really surprised that the whole discussion about firewalls and A/V protection on smart phones hasn't come up before.

(When using the phone in "Data mode" via the telecom company - you usually get better security although even here it's not fool proof as recent on going Court cases in the UK have shown where journalists were alleged to have hacked into private mobile phone communications -- my main concern is with using a browser on public Wi-Fi networks like in a Bar etc).

Cheers
jimbo

I agree and understand I use webroot spysweeper on my Android and it scans everything that is around and the networks i have cofidence in this software i been using it for years on end

They also have paid version of a netwrok sweepers too

I also installed Droid wall but you can always get a reputible name brand if you like ussually i don't let my phone log into public wi fi i simply turn off wi fi especially if you have 4LTE it's almost the same thing fast enough to do what you have to
