Just a quick note. I could not post this in the Windows 8 forum. I am a member but have not posted anything yet since I am not fond of 8 to say the least. Would this be a lack of posts in that forum issue? I do have windows 8 on virtual machines. The free enterprise trial and the 8 Pro with Media Centre on a Virtual machine just for seeing what all the fuss is about.

I have no idea, not even sure if I'm a member there to tell you the truth. Think I remember going there once or twice back when I was trying the beta/rc ? of 8 but truly don't remember.

Rather curious ComputerWorld did not address the manufacturing besides $$$(cost). How about coming up with a product that will realize the potential of Windows 8? Perhaps they can't. Incur the wrath of Microsoft and acknowledge it. Or else, work with Microsoft and come up with something that can transform the PC culture.

As it is, 95% of the laptops on the store shelves are non-touchscreen. The few that are don't provide any other flexibility; it is still the typical laptop. The rare few hybrids are overpriced (because they're rare) and options on specifications are limited. IOW, the buyers aren't buying what the sellers are selling and the sellers aren't making what the buyers want to buy at a reasonable price.

Since October, I've been waiting for a hybrid touchscreen laptop with a decent size in screen and SSD, and some power in processor, all packaged for a reasonable price. The few that were introduced to help launch Windows 8 lacked in a few specs and have not made a reappearance in stores.

In summary, the touchscreen capability of Windows 8 is disorienting to manufacturers, sellers and consumers. They don't know what to do with it, to fit it into their world.

my $0.02 worth. I just can't get my mind around touch screens except for Kiosks, children or the Handicapped.
Not only that,

I think that touch screens were plotted by the screen wipe manufacturers.
It is hard to get peanut butter and jam off the darned screen.

Can't soak the screen to loosen the jam.
