You cannot hide an update - you can only hide each version of an update.

The version of the update that you hid did not unhide itself. A new version was offered.

I realize that the end result is the same... but it might be worth knowing what really happened.

Never the less I'm done playing whack-a-mole with Microsoft.

They want to get as many people as possible on just one system to simplify providing security updates. They had horrible sales and adoption figures for Win 8.x so they are trying to save face by getting as many people as possible on Win 10 to make them look better. Win 10 is closer to their one OS for all devices dream than Win 8.x was. Win 10 has snooping "features" that can't be turned off and forced updates so MSpy can force people to go in whatever direction MSpy wants to go, such as cloud computing. subscription based services, etc.

They also want a popular and profitable apps store = again what business wouldn't want that too

Problem is always functionality that will take time and might take a new device to achieve.
Upgrading is not an option for me personally 10 Home is not an option and I'm not a fan of upgrade installs anyway.

The compulsory upgrade install is simply a way to ensure that only legitimate systems are upgrade for free -You can easily perform a fresh install after the initial upgrade

Yep I just hate wasting time and the real possibility of failure and a clean install or restore image and starting over again

I upgraded vista to 7 on 2 machines but used a upgrade disk on 1 and it still did not go well integrating os's

Besides having 7 home premium I would need 2 upgrades to make life more fun
Second upgrade would be to 10 Pro for 99.us anyway so 140.us for 10 Pro is a lot more straight forward in my eyes
Now I'm down to is 10 pro worth it :/
Hopefully eventually it will I will check again Christmas holidays and see what has changed.
Of course still using the insiders program

Agree 100%. MS has also relied very heavily on the OEMs for a long long time to bring in revenue every year with new hardware announcements, thus new licenses, but PC and desktop sales have been declining for sometime in lieu of non-Windows smartphones and tablets. MS missed the boat here and therefore a ton of revenue. Additionally the Enterprise customer has been very reluctant to throw huge chucks of capital at new hardware for several years now and have been either velcroved to XP or W7. The Enterprise full price licenses are an enormous revenue cow for MS and they do not get the free upgrade to W10. MS just recently kicked the OEMs in the head with the Surface Book announcement, so it appears that MS is starting to sever that relationship as the PC/desktop market continues its decline. IF you want a W10 laptop/tablet and phone - get it directly from the MS Store - cut out the middle man and the OEM bloat. I think MS declared war - but it has gone somewhat unnoticed. W10 is the flagship so they are pushing it with gusto - even to those that do not want it.

So M$ has been in Intel's ear for a moving on to 10.

Again, maybe not. Just because the board has a legacy PS/2 port doesn't necessarily mean it has to be used. USB 2.0 headers are on the MOBO so USB 2.0 can be made available on a PCI cover in case current keyboards and mice won't work on USB 3.0.

Just for excrement and merriment, I pulled the Logitech Unifying Receiver for my M525 mouse from its USB 2.0 port and plugged it into a USB 3.0 port to see if it work there. It did (which I expected but it's nice to get confirmation).

Acer, Asus and Toshiba will have a lot of problems with the ramp up of the MS Store and specifically the tight relationship that MS has with Intel. HP, Dell and Lenovo made deals with MS as soon as they got the heads up on W10 - even though the GWX free upgrade for home users eroded their revenues in a big way. Lenovo is probably best suited, due to their product mix, geo-location and user base, more apt to weather the storm. They offer Linux pre-installed on some laptops, have a smartphone division, still offer W7 on the existing line (and not just as a downgrade) and have Android as well as Windows Cloned tablets - they have buttered their wontons on both sides, so it doesn't matter which side hits the floor. MS is playing hardball and some of the mid-sized OEMs may not have the fire power to hang around.

I've said it before, but until Linux, and and its varients, get on board with the gaming sites, then thats when MS will really start losing "customers"..
