I never install for at least a week or two, unless there's a day zero-type update, and I like to wait for others to pick up on any problems and then for MS to withdraw/replace any offending update. I also wait for advice from experts such as Susan Bradley and Woody Leonhard as well as reading everyone's experience and thoughts here. It's far too soon to install this week's updates in my view.

From my own experience..I don't think I have ever had an issue concerning any update. I've known a few that had refused to install, but apart from that...It's been pretty much good.

Saying that it's always good to have reinsurance. :)

I normally wait until' around Friday/Saturday to blast off.

I've downloaded all the installers but only installed the Time Zone update so far, as that has some updated info with regards to GMT here in the UK.
The security updates I'll most likely install next week. No rush as far as I'm concerned. Like to see if any issues are reported first.

Tried to install 14 or so updates this evening (minus the inevitable W10 update); left it for an hour and a half and it didn't download anything (stuck on 0%) so I'll leave it to the weekend. Thinking maybe loads of people trying to download at the same time.

I thought we were past the slow downloads, but I was Oh, so wrong. June's updates took 2 hours to download & install, after the first failure, which also took an hour. I don't know what's going on, but the large regular monthly updates are becoming a nightmare.

The strange thing is that MSE updates download & install quickly.

The updates are likely to be more of a nightmare if you install them immediately they are offered and without any sense of tactics. There is at least one update this month that is acknowledged now by MS to be problematic (KB3159398) and another that is believed to be critical to updating speed and which should therefore be installed first (KB3161664). It makes no sense to install any updates until they have been fully checked, cleared, and prioritised by experts on a variety of sites.

Hi,

Knowing that the WU must be handled with the proper care nowadays, but just to avoid some unfounded panic about KB3159398, I suggest having a look at:

https://community.spiceworks.com/topic/1666296-beware-known-issues-with-update-kb3159398

and find “EDIT 2: I strongly urge everyone to NOT decline this update.”

My system is working fine after updates.

I suggest you and others also read the comments below the article.

It seems to me that the important thing these days is this - whether you decide to install an update or not, don't make that decision the moment the update is offered to you. Rather, wait a few days and see what is being said about it. The only exceptions to that should be in the case of a day zero hotfix, or of course if you're running Windows 10 and don't have any choice in the matter!

I suggest you...”

Hi,

Thanks for your suggestion, but I am just sharing my own experience about WU without being paranoid about that. Only handling it with the proper care, no panic at all.

Regards,

I was also just about ready to post how good Windows Updates has been working until this last batch.
Seems like a little reminder from Microsoft what they think of Windows 7 users.
Yes; I already have KB3161664 installed and it still took many tries and a very, very, very long time to search and download the Updates.
