Microsoft Security Essentails 64 bit

I Googled for information on MSE and came across an article that said it was for 32 bit Win 7 machines. If this is correct does anyone know if a 64 bit version is in the works?

I have windows 7 64 bit and MSE works great. I use the windows firewall and Malwarbytes to scan once a week for any malware that may have been missed. Give it a try you will like it, I am sure

It is for 32 birt and 64 Bit. This is a known fact. You have no problem.

Me too currently using it on my x64 windows. MSE is designed for windows itself. It works on both platforms.

I agree. It works perfectly well in both 32 & 64 bit. There is not a 64 bit only version.

Yeah there has always been a 32 bit and 64 bit separate version of MSE since it's come out. If you click on the download button on the site, it will show you both versions there. Pick the one you want.

Thanks to everyone who responded. I did't believe it when I read about it being for 32 bit only so that is why I asked here.

Another quick question if I may. Is there a way to disable the automatic update of MSE?

And remember Windows 7 isn't your fathers operating system, it has
matured nicely. For the most part let 7 and MSE do their thing
you won't be disappointed.

FWIW there is no separate disable setting within MSE. Updates are provided by Windows Updates. You could "disable" automatic updates by changing settings for Windows Updates. But there is a cautionary tale to that.

Starting in 2007, Microsoft used what many have called "stealth updates". Even if a user selected "Download updates but let me choose whether to install them" or "Check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install them", updates would still be installed without any other user input. Microsoft did this to facilitate updating Windows Update itself. Users found out that this practice would interfere with automatic backups, etc because computers would re-boot in the middle of a task without any warnings. The only sure option to truly disable ALL updates is to select "Never check for updates (not recommended)". The user would then have to remember to manually check for ALL updates on a regular basis, not just MSE.

From the below source: "If you turn on the Update Services, regardless of which "turned on" setting you have chosen, required updates to some components of the service will be downloaded and installed automatically without further notice to you. If you would prefer not to receive required updates, turn off the Update Services."
