Microsoft Security Essentials and Anti-hackers?

Does Microsoft Security Essentials have anti-hacker capabilities? I mean can it stop hackers from entering my computer? I read its description and it does not seem to mention anti-hacking but I was told that it does have anti-hacker capabilities. Thank you.

I know. I was asking specifically about Microsoft Security Essentials to see if what I was told about it is true. Does it scan for hackers and erase them.

That said you inspired me to check out my firewall status. I found two labels which said:

Home or Work (private) networks --- not connected

Public networks ---- connected

I have a home desk top. Shouldn't that first one be connected? I did look for a way to connect it but found nothing. In the "what is" page, it seemed to be saying to choose one or the other.
