I have already re-downloaded the application at least 3 times. It gives me the same message every time.
This happened before I even installled any security programs. I then installed trend micro because I had nothing else at the time. That was of course, before I learned that Trend Micro Antivirus is a resource hog, and would often crash my computer during times of high resource usage. Is there any way this problem can be fixed? I mean, I've searched the forums here, and found no answers that have worked, such as the forum by Hazr:

Just as effective as MSE is Avast IMO -- I know it doesn't resolve the problem but can u try installing Avast; at least then u will have an effective working security program until folk here attempt to diagnose.

My Computer

OS
Windows XP - Now Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit).
I ASSUME you are downloading from this official site and the correct version for your operating system.

Also look at C:\ProgramData\Microsoft for a folder for MSE and delete it before trying to reinstall.

I did download security essentials from that site, and its not working. I tried going into the Microsoft Program Data file and deleting Security Essentials.
I even tried deleting windows defender on the basis that it could possibly be messing things up.

Go back to the MSE site and submit a support case to Microsoft. It is free support.
