The problem is that you really don't know whether an AV program is any good. You may just be lucky and never be attacked. I know NIS was fishing out a few of those buggers on my system, but with MSE I never saw any action. In fact at one time Mbam found a keylogger that got past MSE. Frequent scans with powerful scanners are useful. But sometimes even a blind chicken (like SAS) finds a grain, LOL. And then don't forget - imaging, imaging, imaging saves your bacon.
