So I notice MSE v2 is released. I have v1.0.2498.0 installed, and when I press UPDATE only the definitions are renewed.

I don't know whether to uninstal old one and instal v2.0.657.

Thing is I've never had any problem with the old one, and if it ain't broke....

Anybody got any thoughts / experiences on this?

Most people have gone to MS and downloaded the new version and manually installed it.

I don't think it comes via update, but I could be wrong.

Mine new version installed right over the top of the old one.

It has a few new menu choices. I don't know what is different under the hood, but I don't see any reason not to go with the new version.

There's at least one long thread on it.

I have recently upgraded from v1 to v2 using uninstall old version and reinstall new version which is considered the best method by many to avoid potential software conflicts between versions. Simply uninstall old version then restart computer and then install Microsoft Security Essentials 2.0.657.0

Please note there is two versions, en-us\amd64\mseinstall.exe is for 64 bit windows and en-us\x86\mseinstall.exe is for 32 bit systems.

To find out which version of windows of windows you have just right click My Computer icon on start menu or desktop and select properties from drop down menu

Mine updated quite well. It removed the old version and installed the new one. Too bad all software isn't this easy to upgrade.

You could download from the Microsoft site. Another option is to launch MSE and click the triangle next to Help. In the drop-down menu, select "Check for software updates".
