Hi all,

Just lately I have noticed that evertime I login to my Windows 7, Microsoft Security Essentials is telling me that I may be potentially unprotected! This never used to happen....I scan my pc and it always comes back clean..... just getting this potentially unprotected warning everytime doesn't seem right... I think It's been like this since the flame problem and since microsoft pushed out many security updates on the last patch Tuesday

Is anyone else getting this?

Thanks

Sam

Ok...not sure if this would have been a problem in MS Security Essentials, but I had some quarantined nastys...I've removed them now and I'll post results if the problem persists... Just one question! should you delete quarantined items?

Still the same

Hi all,

still had the same problem with MS Security Essentials so I've now removed it and put AVG free on there.

Thanks

Thousands of people have installed those updates and haven't had that problem. This means we can rule out the updates being responsible for your problem.

I'm busy with another problem right now, but I'l ask for others to look at your problem.

Did you have any other security product(s) installed on the machine before you installed MSE? If yes, it's possible (actually, more like probable) that remnants were left behind that have interfered with MSE's proper operation. You may want to go through these two lists of uninstaller tools (some of the tools will be duplicated) and use those for any other products previously installed. First uninstall any product from control panel > programs and features and then use the uninstaller.

List of anti-malware product removal tools - Experts Community Wiki - Site Root - Windows Experts Community

Once you've used the uninstaller(s) try reinstalling MSE.

I had a similar problem about a year ago.

I uninstalled MSE and reinstalled and the problem went away.

You might want to look at this FAQ from Microsoft regarding MSE and installation:
