I hate to see any business fail. They employ people and that's good but lets be honest. The majority of people go to buy a new computer and they look at price. Something not too cheap and something not too expensive. Microsoft creates a very good middle of the road pc simply because of the infrastructure they have in place. I know people that don't even know what version of the OS they are using much less that they are using Windows. They expect it to work when they get home. That is about it. If Microsoft wants to compete with the techies and in the high end market they need to throw out the usual pedestrian business concept on those new devices. They should actually not be Windows like. It seems they want all their products to be part of a larger Windows concept, but they have a business market that they dominate. The two should be separate. They need to bring in some real developers with the talent to develop software that techies are into. If they are shooting for that market. They can't treat all their markets as one single entity. Windows 8 is blah. If I am spending that kind of money I want something damn nice. Software to techies can be sexy. Microsoft does not know sexy when it comes to software.

They also dominate the middle of the road and they should keep doing what they are doing in that market as well.

I'd wager this is just a result of the Surface being excessively overpriced.
