It depends on what you are running. With some addons the drivers go on during the install of the application portion in a certain order. Any separate driver install will knock the application portion out!
For general Windows, video and sound the updates along with the 11 security fixes due tuesday will simply go on without a hitch. If you should add a new device on at some point all this could change for you where any automatic install would cause problems.

My Windows has, besides language packs, all available updates (including optionals and drivers) applied usually as soon as they appeared on Windows Update. I have never got a single issue so far. Am I lucky?
have to admit, i also havent had any problems with the "important" updates with Win 7, drivers... thats a different issue, i have learnt the hard way not to install ANY drivers that windows update offers you

I had troble with this one: Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 8 for Windows 7 (KB980182). It caused page rendering to change in FF and a few other problems. How and why I do not know. I uninstalled it and all was well without a reboot. I will, at some point, install it again and see what happens.

Generally I never seem to have any problems with any of the MS regular updates that come out. As for the updates due today I see 5 for security and 1 for the WMSRT(Windoows Malicious Software Removal Tool) for the 64bit 7.
And to correct one thing that was 34 not 35 language packs. 35 was the total with the tuner card update still seen as always! MS doesn't get it that you have to install the same version's application installer at the same otherwise the application part simply won't run.

I've been running a 30 day trial of a new av program that comes with or without a firewall option. So far this one is far less intrusive and catches more then any other program looked at. If that's the free version of ZA you are trying to get on there I won't bother since it's generally considered worthless!
A few others like Comodo and Jetico are far better for the freebies. The program being looked at is still rated better then those but only sees a 1yr. not 2yr. or 3yr. license option.
Meanwhile I haven't noticed any differences with or without the latest updates on so far. The Malicious SRT update doesn't do much of anything here anyways since the system here is kept "bug free" to start with. I would be tempted to leave that one unchecked but would continue to it listed when checking for anything else new.
