This is from Corrines site:
  1. To Disable the Floppy Drive in Device Manager: Go to Device Manager. (Accept any UAC Prompt in Windows Vista or Windows 7). Locate and Expand FloppyDiskdrives. Right-click on the FloppyDiskDrive and select Disable. Close Device Manager and restart the computer.
  2. To Disable the Floppy Drive in BIOS: On most computers you can access the BIOS by tapping the Delete key when restarting the Computer, although some use the F2, F10 or ESC key. In CMOS Setup, click the device associated with the drive, generally Floppy Drive A and select Disabled. Press F10 to save and select Yes to confirm your changes and restart the computer.
Reverse the process to re-enable the floppy drive.

Hi Corinne,

I add the 32bit MSSS ISO to my YUMI multiboot USB (Transend 8GB), and then tried scanning a Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 x86 installation my oldish test PC.

The scanner boots up fine, but during that bar that moves left to right across the centre of the grey screen, it stops with the Error Code 0x8004cc05 message. Using Brink's tutorial, I followed the tip section through to Security Garden, and noted the advice about AMD processors and floppy drive.

This oldish PC has an Intel Pentium 4 Prescott 2.4Ghz and there is physically no floppy drive installed. I went into the BIOS to double check, and sure enough it shows the floppy drive as Disabled.

Can you suggest another possible cause for this error?

The full PC specs can be found here : http://www.sevenforums.com/chillout...you-can-teach-dog-new-tricks.html#post1565011

Hi, Golden.

My first thought was that it does not have sufficient RAM. However, I see that the PC makes the "at least 1 GB RAM" requirement.

A solution I saw that was successful on some old Dell's was to boot without the network cable. After the Standalone System Scanner launches, reconnect the network cable and download the current definitions.

Someone posted the following comment on my Standalone System Sweeper tutorial:
I also get Error Code: 0x8004cc05 when attempting to run System Sweeper from a USB drive. I have a 64-bit processor and the 64-bit version of System Sweeper, and no floppy drive enabled. What else may be causing this error?

I made the same suggestion to him to boot without the network cable and then to reconnect the network cable and download the current definitions after the Microsoft Standalone System Sweeper launches.

The person replied that disconnecting the network cable worked so I've updated Solve Microsoft Standalone System Sweeper Errors to reflect that solution as well.

Have you tried that yet?

Fast,
Welcome to SevenForums.

Before I make a recommendation, I need you to fill out your System Specs.

Please read and follow precisely:
Update your SevenForums System Specs
User CP (3rd item in the top menu bar) |
Your Profile | Edit System Spec
(left-hand column)

To gather info, use SIW or Speccy or System Info

Add the word laptop or desktop or netbook to the
“system manufacturer” block, for example,
Toshiba Satellite L305D notebook.

Provide full windows version info, for example:
MS Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 64-bit

Use the “Other Info” block for Optical Reader,
Mouse, touchpad, wifi adapter, speakers, monitor, etc

Scroll down and click on the SAVE CHANGES button.

====================================
====================================

As a general program, I find Speccy excellent.

For an unbelievably thorough report of your system, then SIW is my choice.

Hi Corinne,

Sorry for the late reply. I tried two varaints of your suggestion as follows:

1. Unplug network cable, boot from ISO, run MSSS
2. Boot from ISO, unplug network cable, run MSSS

Both still result in the same error code being returned.

The only thing I can think of is that this is version of Windows 7 Home Premium x86 is still a trial (ie. I haven't activated it yet as this PC is just a testing PC for me at this stage). Its still well within the 30 day activation period. Could that make a difference?

Regards,
Golden

I don't know if it not being activated yet would make a difference. Try this sequence:

1. Unplug network cable, boot from USB
2. Plug in network cable, update Definitions
3. Run Microsoft Standalone Security Scanner

Thanks Corinne, the only problem is I don't know how to update the definitions.........I get the error code before any sort of menu pops-up

This is what I see:

1. Boot from USB
2. Double click .ISO
3. "Loading Windows files" starts
4. Get silver screen with grey bar moving backwards/forwards (presumably MSSS is loading up)
4. Error Message appears after a few minutes.

Not yet - I'll give that a go, and also possibly a standalone USB installer (recall my MSS ISO is part of a YUMI multi-boot installer, although it seems to load fine insitially).

Thanks. I'll let you know what I find.
