Microsoft start advertising Internet Explorer 9 beta

Long Zheng has just spotted that Microsoft is already starting to advertise Internet Explorer 9 Beta ahead of its official launch next Wednesday. The banner advert was spotted on TechCrunch and it’s likely to be found on many other sites across the web.


The advert features a few quotes from people and web sites that who played with previous versions of Internet Explorer 9. The advert focuses on how Internet Explorer 9 will allow for a different kind of internet than the one we are used too telling readers to “get ready for a more beautiful web”. This has been the tag line used with Internet Explorer 9 ever since Microsoft announced they would be holding a special event for the launch of the beta.

Why is that?

Because Microsoft hasn't really done anything extraordinary with a web browser in a very long time. I've been pretty much a sole Firefox guy for a number of years...for integrating a pop-up blocker first, for having tabs first, for having more and better add-ons first, for patching more regularly first, etc. I simply don't use or play with the MS browsers. I've spent a lot more time with both Opera and Chrome than IE. To me, using IE is like using notepad. It works, but it's just blah.....

Why is that?

Because Microsoft hasn't really done anything extraordinary with a web browser in a very long time. I've been pretty much a sole Firefox guy for a number of years...for integrating a pop-up blocker first, for having tabs first, for having more and better add-ons first, for patching more regularly first, etc. I simply don't use or play with the MS browsers. I've spent a lot more time with both Opera and Chrome than IE. To me, using IE is like using notepad. It works, but it's just blah.....

Do not knock it 'till you try it.

Does it truly matter who has it first? Its who makes the most out of the feature that matters. So far, Firefox has been going downhill in my eyes. Heck, I just installed Firefox Beta 5, Minefield (FF4) Pre-Beta 6 (and the 64-bit version) and all three are out performed by IE8! That shocks the heck out of me.

It's not a matter of knocking it...I'm not saying it's bad. I'm saying that historically Microsoft hasn't done much to excite me, but other vendors have...thus I would rather use their products. They meet my needs well, and most run on multiple platforms which is good for me.

While they may have not accomplished much in the past, the are certainly and undeniably moving in the right direction with all their products. Each release of a product now is just tremendously better.

Ebbs and flows. I'll just let you guys try out IE and find out what it does good and bad. If FF users universally move over for some whiz bang awesome feature, I'll probably give it a look. Otherwise, I'm likely going to stick to what I know, what has Add-ons that I like and what doesn't run all of the Active X stuff and the like.

It's like Silverlight...I'm not entirely sure what it even is..but every time I see the prompt asking me if I want to install it..."I'm like "heck no, I don't want one more thing installed here".

However, I think that Windows 7 is excellent and I've been supporting it since day 1. And I like server 2003 and server 2008...although they often simply price themselves out of contention where I work.

I'll be looking to make a solid comparison between IE 8 and the beta having set up a second identical 64bit solution here on a second drive for beta testing IE 9 as well as other things.

As far as comparisons between FF and other browsers stacked up against IE 9 here what one blog last November showed in a chart at the time. Internet Explorer 9 to sport GPU acceleration and HTML5 support

i'm a big fan of Firefox...and currently using Firefox/4.0b4..
and happy with it's performance..

but i'm also eager to use IE9..

I'm still waiting for some final details likely seen once the beta is out. Up until this point everything from MS has been a little tight lipped and anything else has been blogs.
