Microsoft Surface Pro expected to arrive in 'weeks'

The Surface Pro's arrival is only a matter of weeks away, according to a tweet today from Microsoft.
"On my way to the factory to check out #Surface Pro coming off the line...arriving in the coming weeks," tweeted Panos Panay, general manager of Microsoft's Surface products.
This should be of no great surprise, of course. When Microsoft announced the Surface tablet last year, it said the Windows 8 Pro model would be available about 90 days after the release of the Surface RT.

WEEKS away still !! I think most of us expected it to be hitting the shelves about Now.

Ms - although they can't really be responsible for production problems outside its control seem to have released the two Surface tablets the wrong way round -- PRO should have been released first and THEN te cheaper one --like Samsung have done with the Galaxy IIIs smartphone.

Samsung released the flagship model first and for people who can't quite run to the price of the IIIs they've now released a very good value for money at less than half the price of the IIIs : the IIIs mini.

Businesses usually release the top of the line model first to whet the public's appetite and then they release the cheaper models for people who can't quite afford the top models.

Ms missed a good marketing opportunity by not having these ready by XMAS --they would most certainly have been an "Ipad Killer".

The RT has some uses but it's not really a laptop replacement -- whereas there's not much a laptop can do that a surface pro can't (apart from running a load of VM's with systems like SAP running on them !!!).

Business buyers who said no to Microsoft's Surface with Windows RT will get a chance to try the Surface with Windows 8 Pro when it goes on sale next month. Will the second time be the charm for Microsoft? Or will businesses pass on the radical tablet/PC design?

Actually, I don't know why Microsoft well it at such a high price. I like the design and the new system, but is Really expensive. Anyone have the same opinion as me?

FWIW: I read where the surface pro's OS and such will take up over 75% of the SSD's space which does not leave much room for any programs that you are expected to install. Not good..

Depends on the SSD size, 64 or 128GB.
It has a microSDXC memory and USB slots, so you can easily add more.

Finally saw a couple of Microsoft television ads for the Surface. In one of the ads a young girl maybe five years old is "drawing" pictures and her mother is plastering them all over the walls in the house. In the other ad people are sitting around some outdoor tables, swapping out keyboards while some angry school girls are dancing.

From these two ads it seems that Microsoft is promoting the Surface as an expensive toy. Not as a business tool. Sorry, but I just don't get this marketing strategy.

My guess is they're trying to appeal to the average Apple crowd who use their iPad almost solely to Facebook and Twitter and consume other content. Obviously, Microsoft and Surface Pro are clearly not appealing themselves to business users, producers of content, power users and enthusiasts with those ads; whether this is intentional or not is anyone's guess.

Not sure why they choose this approach, maybe they figure business & power users, enthusiasts, will probably know about the Surface Pro, others probably not.

I think it is way too expensive, I can buy 2 desktops for one surface Pro, If it was the same price as the ipad I would consider getting it

Actually saw the Surface Pro on display this evening at Staples. They said they couldn't srat selling them yet but just had it on display. It's a nice machine but for what it costs I'd rather have a laptop. Seemed to run pretty warm just sitting there. Price is $900 WITHOUT the keyboard, over a grand including the keyboard.

That is one expensive machine. Wonder if Microsoft will reduce the price if sales are slow.
