Microsoft to buy LinkedIn for $26.2 billion,Microsoft is buying social media company LinkedIn in an all cash deal for $26.2 billion.Microsoft announced a deal to acquire professional social platform LinkedIn for $196 per share Monday. The all-cash deal is valued at $26.2 billion.

Shares of LinkedIn surged 48 percent after the announcement, while shares of Microsoft opened down 5 percent. Before the announcement, trading in Microsoft had been halted briefly for news pending.

Jeff Weiner will stay on as CEO of LinkedIn and will report to Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella. The deal was unanimously approved by both companies' Boards of Directors, and is expected to close by the end of the calendar year. The acquisition is still subject to approval by LinkedIn shareholders, and regulatory approvals.

Looks like LinkedIn will be soon be joining the graveyard of companies that MS bought and destroyed. Either that, or it will become a new tool in MS' spy network.

Can't say I've ever used LinkedIn. Used to get loads of emails from people wanting me to join up but I've blocked everything with regards to the company now.

In other news (Microsoft to acquire LinkedIn for $26.2 billion | Fox News) ol' Nutella had this to say about the buyout:

"“The LinkedIn team has grown a fantastic business centered on connecting the world’s professionals,” said Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, in a statement. “Together we can accelerate the growth of LinkedIn, as well as Microsoft Office 365 and Dynamics as we seek to empower every person and organization on the planet.”

It seems Office 365 can't stand on its own and Win 10 is enough to force it on people, so nutella and his cronies had to acquire another platform to use to push it on people?

Another thing. Wouldn't you love to see the business case for such a massive acquisition ($26billion!!!). There used to be an old management slogan "stick to the knitting". Excessive diversification can cripple a corporation. Also in the US when does the anti trust law start to kick in.

If Teddy Roosevelt was still around, this acquisition never would have happened. I still wonder where a company that was hurting so badly for sales and had just blown a wad on the Nokia fiasco came up with the cash for such a massive purchase?

That had to be one of their biggest Booboos!

LinkedIn should be nic-named "Sucked In". I still don't know what I did to become involved with that POS, but I sure wish I could get out!

It has its advantages and disadvantages. Like any social media you need to be careful what you post.

Today I did close OUT my LinkedIn account. I guess you could say I'm "Linked OUT".

I was undecided till I read "Bob Rankin's" newsletter this morning. That definitely took me off the fence.
My personal security is of extreme importance to me, and I'm just one heartbeat away from putting my Internet Modem and router in a trash masher. And, go back to hand writing my messages and sending them via USPS.

NO, I don't belong to any other public media..... and never will.
