MY Win 7 French just froze twice.

Found a fix.

If you have Eset installed or any other anti virus that might cause the freeze, disable antivirus and Spyware protection.

The fix will install.

I also installed the update for x64. The funny thinks is that they call the fix "Important" even though it's "Critical".

Updates are classified in a different manner (than vulnerabilities) - as important, recommended or optional.

no kb2286198 in my windows updates past week so what does it mean

in plain English, Havent seen it on windows updates, its not already in my downloaded and installed updates. so is it not important? and why does one need to work around an important update in the first place. hmmm

The work around was a temp fix before the update became available. I had to open Windows Update and have it search for the update in order to install it.

Go to control panel. Click Windows Update. Click search for updates. It should appear. If not, it is already installed.

Got it to 6,6Mb today, installed with no probs whatsoever on x64. Rebooted and shorcuts still works fine.

Ah, I didn't check the x64 size, but the x86 size is 4.3.

6.73 MB so far here... is for Windows 7 x64 builds, for XP x32 is 2.89 MB
I guess that I'll patch whenever I see more users saying that is safe

When checking for updates I saw only three listed along with a separate optional nic card update. Two were typical security updates for the 64bit and one for the malware removal tool. In fact there hasn't been many in the last two months to mention.

I thought I might have had problem caused by it but PEBKAC. No problems on three computers (1 XP, 2 7 x64).

Has anyone tested it by running the malware? LOL. THAT would be the true test.

I doubt anyone would want to disable all protections they presently have on their main OS for a chance look to see unless they were planning to wipe a drive already if not simply seeing a fresh install of 7 go on.

Here the combo av/antispyware/firewall would likely block it long before any the update offers would be tasked.
