Hello, i missed that XP feature so i searched and found out Microsoft did it for 7, due to much requests. I installed the hot fix (which is kb969168) and i can see the files in the system however i have no clue how do i launch it..? I don't see any entry and the only executable called "AgentSvr.exe" does nothing..

To be clearer... I'd like to get back the old voices (french, english, and more..) that were on XP. Certainly there's a way and hopefully you know..

Have you run a test vbs script?

strAgentName = "Merlin"
strAgentPath = "C:\Windows\Msagent\Chars\" & strAgentName & ".acs"
Set objAgent = CreateObject("Agent.Control.2")

objAgent.Connected = TRUE
objAgent.Characters.Load strAgentName, strAgentPath
Set objCharacter = objAgent.Characters.Character(strAgentName)

objCharacter.Show
objCharacter.Play "GetAttention"
objCharacter.Speak "Good Day."
objCharacter.Speak "Goodbye!"
objCharacter.Hide

Do While objCharacter.Visible = TRUE
Wscript.Sleep 250
Loop

copy the above code to note pad and save as as Agenttest.vbs

Once you save the agenttest.vbs you need to execute it by double clicking it. Merlin should come up and knock on the screen then say: Good Day wait amoment and say Goodbye the Merlin will leave.

Not sure we're talking about the same thing then... The thing i'm talking about was also called "microsoft sam" you just type text and it'd read it. I found an app called coolspeech and could get that sam voice back. Was there only this one on XP, no local language voices..? I think there was, and i'd like to find them..

You're right I misunderstood what you were looking for. I believe Windows Seven has that feature but I don't use it so I can't help you.

Maybe someone else will drop by with the answer.

Have you gone through the Control Panel>Ease of Access>Voice Recognition tutorial to see if it suits your needs? I find after one session I can do most things hands-free including dictate this post.
