Microsoft wins Windows XP downgrade lawsuit.

A federal judge has dismissed a year-old lawsuit against Microsoft Corp. over alleged antitrust violations for the "downgrade" rules it set for Windows Vista and XP.

The order issued Monday by U.S. District Court Judge Marsha Pechman put an end to the lawsuit filed by Emma Alvarado in February 2009. In her original complaint, the Los Angeles resident accused Microsoft of coercing computer makers into forcing consumers who wanted to run Windows XP to first buy Windows Vista, or later, Windows 7, before they were allowed to downgrade to XP.

"We're pleased the Court agreed that Plaintiff's complaint failed to state a viable claim and dismissed it in its entirety," Microsoft spokesman Kevin Kutz said in an e-mail.

Computer makers, not Microsoft, charged users the additional fees for downgrading a new PC from Vista to XP at the factory. However, Alvarado did not name Lenovo Group Ltd. in her lawsuit.

DUH !!!
Emma Alvarado and her lawyers are not Tech savvy i would guess.

I also see a lot of computers for repair with people without DVD's from HP etal.

and no idea they should make a recovery DVD after they get their computer.

Yep! That's exactly what i haven't done with my Hp laptop...but luckily it never went on Hp etal! Back in 2001 till 2006 you weren't oblige to do so and recovery were provided by some restoring tools from the manucfacturer. People did get use to it, or could order some recovery cd for free not including postal fees.


I did this time Dvd's recovery straight when i got my new computer! Some will refuse to repair, if Cds or Dvd had not been made. Or will be charged.
