wireless keyboard & mouse intermitent strange behaviour

Hi,
Just started with windows 7 coming from XP (same PC, fresh install of Win 7)

I've had my USB Microsoft Wirless multimedia keyboard and mouse for a few years now and it has never let me down.

I have not installed any specific drivers for it, on Win7 it was working from the off so i left it at that.
But on two occasions, although the multi-media keys still work (open explorer, email, volume etc) the alpha and numeric keys stop working. Windows gives me a "dink" sound when i press them but nothing actually types in a search field or whatever. (in fact for some keypresses other things or messages start popping up from IE8 for example like the key mapping has gone crazy).
On the first occasion this happened i was installing a game (Call of duty world at war 2) and noticed the problem after the install had finished.
The second time I was ripping a Blu-ray to my HDD with CLown_BD, ANYDVDHD etc.

Although I didn't realise it at first, the mouse has also been playing up in the form of not working when i double click to open a file, instead it opened a properties window.
Only a re-start cures these issues when they happen.

I've checked the batteries so its not that.
Checked microsoft updates relative- no joy.
Checked the "update driver", but windows found no better driver than the one being used.
Installed latest intellitype software too.

Any ideas??:(

I have the same exact mouse&keyboard as you. I've been using them since beta and they've worked fine for me. For me I simply plugged the receiver in, and let it DL and install the drivers on it's own. No extra maintenance or drivers necessary. (also all of my keys function perfectly) I have several games downloaded to my computer as well. btw I think you mean 'modern warfare 2' They might have gone bad somehow. :/

Mmm, Thanks for the reply,

I never un-plugged the USB to the receiver when i installed W7. Maybe i should have?

I've just had another thought though, whilst the pc was doing those other things it was in an idle state from the point of me not doing anything else at the same time.

I wonder if its something to do with a power saving feature in W7 settings?

Are you using a desktop or a laptop? I'm using a desktop so that could be true if you are using a laptop.

No, its a desktop but the power conservation options are still there. Just alittle different in options.

Well, Im still having this problem with keyboard and mouse and have checked everything i can think of including power management etc.

I cannot discover what triggers it but when i press "CTRL" and "ALT" together it "wakes" my keyboard and the mouse begins working properly again as well.
sometimes it goes a few hours without messing up and sometimes a couple of minutes.

One strange occurance that often happens at the same time as the fault is when i have explorer 8 open i get the "mini" view window of my open tabs / pages come up on screen. If i see that pop up i know the keyboard and mouse won't be functioning properly.
I've tried everything i can think of except replacing the keyboard & mouse.
I thought about trying a wired (ps2) set-up but what is curious is that on the first occasion this happened and my mouse left click was not working properly, i happened to have a ps2 connected mouse plugged in at the same time. I checked the ps2 mouse function and it was acting exactly like my wirelss usb one. (Left click a folder opens "properties" instead of actually opening the folder). So that event convinced me not to bother trying my old ps2 keyboard and mouse set-up instead.
