Microsoft Wireless Mobile Mouse 4000 - Low Battery Already?

Hmmm. Can't believe what you read nowadays anymore. I bought a Microsoft Wireless Mobile Mouse 4000 to replace an ailing optical laser mouse that's on its last legs, and on the package it said that one "AA" battery would last for one entire year without replacing. What it meant was, it would have took until the next spring before it's time to replace the battery.

Apparently, the mouse doesn't think like that, it appears, and when I was looking down at it, there was a red warning light indicating that the single battery had already been exhausted from use. Between surfing the web and playing some Team Fortress 2 now and then this is more than just a "mobile" mouse.

I have never use that mouse but the first thing I would do is try another battery. Make a note of the date installed and go from their. At the present time I have 4 Microsoft battery powered mice with no problems. Many years ago I did have a Microsoft mouse that eat batteries like a puppy eating pork chops. I just through the dam thing away but you might be able to RMA yours. I have been reading reviews and most people complain about is it gets hot with heavy use. I really don't know how that could happen.

You think the battery connector may be dirty? Because the cell hasn't been removed since it was first put in back in May.

I don't have an overheating issue like some people have. The other mouse would complain about low battery when it was only supposed to last for 6 months between battery changes.

Would using a rechargable NiMH battery work in this mouse? What about lithium?

I have never tried a rechargeable battery. I just use Duracell Copper Top in all my keyboards and mice. Check with Microsoft for updates for your mouse.
