I have initiated the 'Word Starter' on my new pc, Word started off ok and I managed to create a letter template, but now when I open Word and use it I find that it does not close down, the little blue circle starts and nothing happens... then it says 'Not Responding' and I have to click the red x again and a box comes up asking me to re-start or close Word, and after a short period it closes down.???

Thanks guys,
I have made the repair...... mind you Microsofts answer was difficult to understand.. as it was in control panel and add/remove programs that I found the change-repair facility, not 'Start, Programs and program listing', well I did it and received the answer 'repair successful', well we'll see, if not Microsoft can whistle and I'll load one of the free office programs.

Well I tried Word again with the same results,
I was trying to copy and paste info from this forum on 'How to post pictures on this forum' into a word document and all it did when pasting was to put a box on my screen telling me it was getting info from the system? and there it stayed, on cancelling it, it again went into freeze mode and then 'not responding' mode.
Unless anyone can tell me what is going wrong then its curtains for Microsoft Office on my pc.
when uninstalling 'Word Starter' do I uninstall all of Microsoft Office including MSO 2010, MSO click to run and MSO Starter?

I feel your frustration, Ken. In doing some more research I came across a Microsoft article aimed at OEM computer manufacturers. It outlines Office Starter and includes a partial listing of what end-users such as yourself cannot do:

  • Create PowerPoint presentations
  • Manage email with Outlook
  • Organize notes, media, and project resources in one place using Microsoft OneNote
  • Add comments or track changes to documents
  • Analyze data with pivot tables
  • Enhance documents with SmartArt graphics
  • Automate and accelerate repetitive tasks using programmable macros
  • Customize the quick access toolbar
  • Connect to an external data source in Excel
  • Create a report with a table of contents, footnotes, and bibliographies
  • Turn off the advertisements

Microsoft Office Starter 2010

Before removing Office Starter from your machine (once removed you can't get it back unless you've made a system image) I'd try one of the free programs like Open Office or Libre Office. If you're looking for just a stand alone word processor that's also compatible with MS Office, take a look at AbiWord. When you decide it's time to remove Office Starter see the suggested methods in this Microsoft KB article.

Sometimes control panel > programs and features > uninstall leaves behind unwanted registry entries etc that could (not always) give issues later on. Especially since it's an add-on by the computer builder. Something could have been corrupted or damaged during the original installation. Probably 99% of the time you won't have any problems removing the program using control panel. But I know how my luck seems to run so I wind up doing it the long way. :)

Uninstaller

Hi Marsmimar,
I have now loaded LibreOffice onto my pc, when I am ready to uninstall MS office 2010 which way would you say would be the best way for me to uninstall it, bearing in mind I have only ever use the add/remove programs in Control panel in the past, (Didn't know there was any other way)
which way is the least complicated of those you suggested? but will be effective, bearing in mind your comments on add/remove leaving bits behind.

If I can just add to the thread you might want to consider Revo Uninstaller.

revo uninstaller - Google Search.

You can try out the free version to see if you like it and it does seem to do a better job than Microsoft's own uninstaller.

seavixen has provided yet another way to successfully uninstall Office Starter. To quote from the lnk to the Microsoft article in my earlier post,

We recommend that you follow the provided methods in this article in order. However, if you have previously tried one of the methods to remove Office and it has failed, you can jump to another method quickly from this list

I'd start with control panel and if that doesn't work for some reason move on to the Microsoft Fixit option, etc.
