I've searched this forum for my problem, but can't seem to find the answer. A few days ago when I last used M/S Word Starter 2010 it was fine. Today, I clicked on the program on the start menu, and a small 'buffering' type symbol appears spinning on the screen for a few seconds, then disappears - then nothing.

Tried restarting pc and still same problem. The program is still there and listed in the programs on the control panel list.

I tried going to the list of programs to change/repair Word, but I get a small pane coming up saying 'Please wait until the program is finished uninstalling or being changed'. This message comes up every time I do this. I also get another small pane saying 'click 2 run configuration failure'.

I'm using Win 7 and IE11 on a desktop. Any advice appreciated as I use the Word templates to do invoices for my small business. :(

Doing some research online leads me to think that this is a bit of a tricky one. So, to make things simple, I took my pc back to a restore point in the middle of last month. It seems to have done the trick as Word now starts and works properly - for how long, I don't know. At least it gave me time to do my invoices.

May be back if the problem reoccurs.

You should do a complete backup of your computer on a regular basis, so that if this sort of thing happens again, you can easily recover.

Many people use Macrium Reflect Free, along with a big external hard drive. If you first make a Macrium emergency boot disk, then do regular backups, you can easily recover from just about any problem that occurs.

Thanks very much for your advice. I'll have a look at Macrium. What size external H D do you recommend? It's a desktop pc, which I only use for surfing and a small amount of business accounts. No gaming.

As for my original problem, it's several days on and Word is still working fine. The restore seems to have done the trick and the subsequent updates don't seem to have affected anything. I'm keeping an eye on it for now.

I usually recommend a 2 TB drive. No matter what kind of system you have, a 2 TB drive will plug in and work immediately with no setup required. If you go bigger than a 2 TB drive, it can get a bit more complicated than that.
