I recently bought a new SSD and want to move my OS from my old SSD. I downloaded "MiniTool Partition Wizard Free" and it seems to have worked almost flawlessly. I had to use the BCDBoot command to insert the new drive as the new drive, and I now boot from it, except for the fact that the "system reserved partition" used is still the one on my old disk.
The urlis showing as a blocked site by malwarebytes. while you can copy it the best way is to clone the old drive with any free cloning software that will give an exact copy of the drive with all paritions. Copying paritions doesnt allway work as you need boot sector
Now, as far as I understand, the program I used did clone it, the programs function is even called "Migrate OS to SSD/HD" as can be seen in the screenshot. Though it did not change the boot record as far as I can tell.
There is s light difference in a clone copies sector by sector but mini tool seems to copy partitions and as it shows the system size is different I would recommend doing a clone with Macrium Software | Macrium Reflect Free
Yessss. 2) worked, of course. I tried that before, when the new drive wasn't the one that booted, and then it didn't work. I had since then added the new drive through the BCDboot.
Thank you!
Now, I have one final request. I would like to clean up my BCD of old items. I have a legacy item there from when I tried to install a linux partition (Puppy) added with GRUB if i recall correctly, now also the entry of my old drive there.
