Solved Migrating themes, etc. between accounts?

Hi all. I hope this is the correct forum to be posting this. If not, I apologize.

Background: I recently did a clean install of 7 Home Premium x64. The only account I created was an admin account, IF I created the account at all. It may be the default admin account. I don't remember.

I don't know that it's "THE" admin account such as is discussed in this thread, but that probably (?) doesn't matter. It's indeed "AN" admin account, and the only account that was on the machine (except for guest) until today.

Now I've created a standard account, for security's sake. That's what I want for everyday use. Is there a way to bring over my theme, desktop icons, personalizations, and so on over to my new standard account from my admin account? I saw "change my environment variables" under user accounts in control panels, but I'm afraid to click on any of those options and try one without asking. Plus, under "configure advanced user profile properties," it only gives my admin account of course, and it doesn't give me any options as to what to DO with that account/profile, even when logged on as the admin.

Or should I just change this new standard account to the admin account, and what's as of this writing, the admin account the standard account? I'd rather not do that in case of any problems in may cause, but if you tell me that migrating between profiles as I described above can't be done, or at least not easily done, that's what I'll do.

Many thanks in advance.

Hi shablah, the account you created during install is NOT an admin account, your only in the administrator as a member with full privileges almost, as in UAC permissions.
You can transfer themes by right clicking them & following instructions.
All programs you intend to install if using a standard account are not guaranteed to work.
DON'T RUN WITH " ADMIN ACCOUNTS.

OK, I think I understand about r-click themes and following instructions -- as in save theme for sharing? I'll do my best. Will that include my current desktop icons, their spacing and fonts, etc? That's the really important thing. I have them tweaked exactly to my O/C liking.

I'll have to read up on admin accounts, as the account I'm using is the only one that shows up in user accounts as administrator, but that's off topic for this forum.

What does DON'T RUN WITH " ADMIN ACCOUNTS MEAN, please? Does it mean don't have two admin accounts? Off topic, I know, but your capitals made it look scary!

Thanks for the help, and for anything further per my icons, etc.

Great! Thanks for the links to the tutorials.

BUT ... and you may or may not believe this ... I've never, in these months of using 7, been able to find AppData nor anything past that, such as in the path which you gave me. :o It simply does not show up on this machine after C:\Users\(My Name) ... honest to goodness, it doesn't ... which is why I've never been able to locate the Themes folder on my own.

OK, thanks. But if what I have isn't actually an admin account, is it OK to keep on using it and consider this thread all a moot point? (Except it IS interesting to learn how to migrate one account's theme over to another account all the same!)

If your "Admin" account is the one you created, it is a local Admin, not the built in admin account which should only be used in special circumstances.

Using your standard account for daily activity is a good idea, you just have to use admin privileges for certain tasks.

Here's some info http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/2974-user-accounts.html

And AppData is a hidden folder, you need to unhide it to see it.

I'm honestly not sure whether I "created" the account in question or not when I installed 7 or if it was what was given me by default. But it has always been "an" admin account. It was a few weeks ago, and I'm getting extremely sleepy right now, hence the faulty memory. I'll look into it tomorrow via your links.

This has been a wealth of info, in addition to the theme question at hand! I'll use the previous info from you and Roderunner to transfer my theme to my new standard account, regardless of what I find out about this account, which is probably just the local UAC admin. It can't hurt to use a true standard account as you said, with just a few annoyances for admin privileges.

Thank you both, very, very much!
