Hi all,
I'm looking to use a minimalistic version of win7 for internet banking, probably in virtual box for my wife.By minimalistic I mean the bare bones necessary such as FF browser,Tbird email avast or similar antivirus, wordpad (or similar),,system clock, and some sort of software firewall permitting a limited range of IP's
Any ideas ???
Brian

I use Linux Mint Mate in VMware Player for that purpose. Linux is a lot safer than Windows. And Mint Mate is easy to set up and operate.

Here are the download sites for the .iso

http://www.linuxmint.com/download.php

And here is a whole package of 9 tutorials that shows you how to set it up. Download the control sheet (PDF) from my Skydrive. It gives you access to all those tutorials.

The installation takes about 6GB on your disk. But you can move the VMware folder to a USB3 attached external disk (preferably a SSD) and run it on any system that has VMware installed.

If you follow my tutorials after the full installation, it's a breeze. You will see, it is dead simple.

Just be aware that the Mint Mate installation is in 2 steps. After you did the initial installation from the .iso which is quite fast, you have to make the full installation. For that you double click on the virtual disk that you find top left on the initial desktop. From there the wizard takes over and you just select language, region, etc.

There are only 2 commands that you have to run - if you want to take full advantage (such as shared clipboard) of the VMware Tools. Those commands are spelled out in one of the tutorials. But if your wife does not want to share anything with the host, you need not set that up.
