Mirror / Duplicate monitors at differing resolutions?

Is there any way to set up a mirrored monitor setup with monitors of differing resolutions, but simultaneously maintain the native resolution on both monitors?

I have an onboard G31 video on my system. This particular motherboard has both a DVI and VGA output. I have DVI connected to an LCD (1980 x 1020) and VGA connected to a plasma 720p TV. When I mirror the monitors, the monitor and TV both display 1368 x 720.

I know that I could "extend" instead of "mirror," and thus fix the problem. But because this computer is ultimately for my grandmother's setup, using "extend" will not be an option, as it will greatly confuse her and make matter exponentially worse.

Is it possible to mirror and maintain native resolutions with some sort of software? Could I achieve this by purchasing two separate graphics cards?

*edit* - I should note that I researched the issue and, for the most part, believe that it is impossible to achieve what I need. But I thought I'd ask the collective knowledge here first before giving up on it.

I would say that if this is achievable at all, it would probably be with two video cards.

The new eyefinity technology in the Radeon 5800/5700 series might be able to do it, but I don't think so either.

yes i remember this on windows xp used to do it all the time, i would clone 2 outputs 1 to my main monitor and the other to a capture card and my main display is my desktop @ 1680x1050 and my other output was going to a capture card and was set on cloned on the video card

My guess is that you would need an external scaler to fit the 1920x1080 in to a 720p frame.
Text and everything will be really tiny on the TV, probably making it unusable for anything but watching videos.

What is she going to be doing with the computer and the plasma tv?
