My latest problem that seems not to be just me is that when i try to print from an XP machine to win 7 via LAN to my HP6520 it prints in mirror, iv checked all the settings on both comps. Iv also read up a little and it is not only me having this problem. I have not found a solution as yet.

By "it prints in mirror" you mean that the page comes out mirrored?

yep, page comes out a mirrored version of what was on the comp.

It works fine if i print directly from win 7
it works fine if i print from an XP to XP (I have duel boot xp/win7)
but XP to win 7 and no matter what i do with the settings for the printer on either comp it always comes out mirrored.

Weird. Have you installed the right driver on both pcs?

yea sorry .
main comp is win 7 (direct connect to printer)
I have the latest driver installed on my main (win7)
The driver on the LAN connected xp computers were installed apon finding the network printer.

Im suspecting that its something to do with the fact that my main comp(with the printer directly connected) is duel boot and will often change from being xp to win 7 but i need to be able to print from all my lan comps regardless of whether my main comp is running xp or win 7. I realize i have 2 drivers installed on all the lan xp pc's, one for connecting through my main when its on xp and the other was installed when the remote printer was first found whilst going through win 7, so i have 2 drivers installed on each of my "workstation" (not sure if thats the right word) xp pc's & i have to switch between them depending on which OS my main comp is running at that time.

However even removing the other old xp drivers and testing on just 1 pc with new xp installation and only ever having seen my main as win 7 so only the one driver it still prints "mirrored"

Ok have managed to get a single pc to work (XP to win 7) my last paragraph was incorrect in my last post (just a stupid error on my part)

so an XP pc finds a remote printer on a win 7 pc it works fine but i have a duel boot system and i need all my lan comps to be able to print through either xp or win7

So do i run my main as win 7 first , install remote drivers
Then restart main as xp & add remote printer again (installing drivers again)?

or the other way around, add new printer from main on XP first? then do win7 ?

or am i not supposed to have two sets of drivers? i dunno

All i do know is that i need to be able to print through my main if its on XP or Win 7

Cheers all.

You may want to put the printer on a Computer that is running JUST XP.

yea that would be the ideal solution, but unfortunately its just not tenable :(

It could be done but i need my printer in my workshop where my main is, not in one of my kids rooms or my bedroom. I suppose i could put together a hash up comp just for the printer but what a palaver.

Point is i should be able to do what im asking , surly ?

You should yes. But networking with XP is a pain. XP to Vista was difficult enough, but to Seven may not even be possible.

well most networking certainly is possible as the only problem iv has with my network is this odd mirror printing when the printer drivers have been previously installed from a remote xp printer. I shall spend some time trying different methods of setting it up, xp first, win7 first, older drivers etc etc.

Looks like i can either choise which OS on my main to use as my printer OS (a right pain having to keep changing OS when someone wants to print something). Or if it comes to it i'll go get a wireless printer.

Thx

EDIT:-
one caveat i might add about networking is why have they removed the "shared folder" overlay icon ??? what a load of ...
