Had same problem as wan3350 & jackl007..
After Win7 installation
- 1 Partition missing from one disk and 2 partitions missing on another.
- Error message when trying to append a drive letter..
300GB harddrive space missing on each of my 2 750GB Seagate drives after installing Windows 7.

Now it seems that the partition table has been tampered with..
In my case, I had just replaced some main parts in my PC and had therefore disconnected all harddrives..
So with one harddisk connected and the system up running with Win 7 RC1..
I powered down my PC, connected the rest of my harddrives and booted up.. So in this case nothing should have had a chance to manipulate the partition table..
I found TestDisk through the posts above and ran the tests..
On drive1 these tests showed me my actual partitions as they were in WinXP, except there were 2 partitions more than usual.. Those 2 extra partitions were placed on top of my otherwise working partitions.. I tagged them for deletion and tagged the first working as bootpartition and the 2 others as primary partition. Wrote the new partition table to the drive and rebooted.
Now back in Windows disk management util can now see the partitions and they were looking healthy. I didn't even have to append a drive letter, Windows did that.
Now on drive2 the tests showed me 3 partitions and only 2 of them should be there... The third part started just after the first was started and its end was just before the second part ending.. So i practically had 2 drives on ~350GB and a third just above ~700.. That dosen't fit in anywhere.. I tagged the third for deletion and the first for boot part and second as primary.
Wrote the part table, rebooted and back in Windows i had my drives and everything healthy..
Seems to me that either Windows 7 tries to manipulate with your partition table or Windows 7 reads the partition tables differently from Windows XP and Vista..
Anyway TestDisk worked nicely for me.
