Hey!

First of all, hope you don't mind me leeching of this forum, I'll try to contribute some in the future...

I'm trying to install Windows 7 on an old computer. As the title suggests, the install won't start because "a required cd/dvd device driver is missing"

I've tried all the suggestions in the http://www.sevenforums.com/installation-setup/34853-common-installation-problems.html thread, but with no luck.

The computer I'm trying to install on:

Asus A8N-SLI Premium
Two IDE disks (one Maxtor DiamondMax 200gig and another one I don't know the manufacturer of)
A NEC DVD-RW, also IDE
and a SATA disk (WD Caviar SE WD2000JD) controlled by SIL3114 bios.

Ive tried different BIOS settings, disconnecting all the drives, a ton of different drivers (both from nvidia for nforce4 and also for the sil3114) but nothing seems to work.

I hope you can help me

Thanks in advance!

/F

You need the drivers for your DVD drive, the one that you're using to run the installation. It seems that Windows 7 doesn't have the proper drivers to read from your DVD drive. You could try installing Windows 7 from a USB Stick in the mean time and then install DVD drivers at a later date.

Are you installing Win 7 to a IDE drive? if yes.

Try this, remove Sata drive, & controller card.

Thank you both for your quick replies!

Unfortunately, I don't have a large enough USB stick here at the moment, will try it tomorrow if I can't get it to work tonight.

Disabling the SATA controller didn't work, already tried it.

Will go hunting drivers for the DVD-RW then...

Not disable the card, remove from rig.

Oh, but its integrated on the mobo.

But, while looking for drivers for the dvd-rw i got fed up and just replaced the whole drive with the one from this computer (on which I installed Windows 7 just recently without any errors), and yeah, problem solved! :D

Thanks for your time and effort!
