Hello everyone.. I come once again humbly seeking your help and expertise. I applaud your persistence.
My system is Windows 7 Home Premium, Service Pack one. It is a 64 bit operating system with 4 GB RAM and Intel Core(TM)2 Quad CPU, built by HP.

My problem: The file extension .EXE is not in the list of extensions fouind in Default Programs in the control Panel; It also is not listed as autorundll.EXE.

Question: Is this extension supposed to be present in the list? if it is, how to I replace it.

ALready tried: I ran System Fuke Checker from the command prompt and it reported that it found corrupt files and was unable to fix some. I attempted to find the CBS\CBS log file and it was not where it was supposed to be, so I don't know what sfc could not repair. Please help.

Hello xgdude,

No. The .exe file type would not be listed in Default Programs since you would not want to change it's default association.

If you are having issues with .exe file associations, then you could download and merge the .reg file for the listed EXE option in the tutorial below to restore it's default associations.
Hope this helps, :)
Shawn

Missing file extension

Thanks Brink for the timely response and the good news; I don't really have a problem.
The tutorial "restore Default Windows 7 file Extensios type Associations" is informative and would be a valuable tool if I had a default file extension problem. I will file this away for future use if needed.

changed from "missing" to cab't install

So far I have determined that my problem is not a missing file extension .exe.
Here's what is going on. My pc will not autorun any software installation disc. when inserted it will pompt to "play with windows media or to view files, etc. Yes, I do have the setting in default autorun for software to run and install. I have tried ten different installdisc and none will run automatically. I have searched install discs for the install .exe file and it will not install manually.

Can this be easly corrected?

Sorry, but the autorun feature has been disabled in Window for security purposes. :(

The green information box at the top of the tutorial below can help give you more details about this if you like.

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/161443-autorun-inf-files-completely-block.html

Since the install/setup .exe will not run when you try manually, you might check to see if your firewall or AV program may be blocking it.

Another question: Can the cd/dvd drive be restored to the autorun of software installation disc by following the instructions in the section "Enable Autorun.inf files back to Default?"
