Hi Keviny6 and welcome to the Forum.
First off what message did you get when you deleted the files? Can you remember if it said anything about the files were too big to go to the Recycle Bin, did you want to permanently delete them?
What file extension did the files have? If you say the files are gone but they still take up space on the hard drive, how do you know this if you can't see the files? Are the folders they were in still there?

Hi Kevin
You need to read my posts a little more. I asked in post #3 "First off what message did you get when you deleted the files? Can you remember if it said anything about the files were too big to go to the Recycle Bin" Can you please reply to this. In the same post I asked "What file extension did the files have?"
New Questions:
What size is your C drive? How many files did you delete and what was the average size of them? How did you calculate that you should have saved 80GB of space? 80GB of space could mean about 28 full size movies. Are you sure it was that many and did you try to delete them all in one go?
Have you emptied your Recycle Bin?

File extension is the part after the dot in a files name, ex: filename.exe, exe is the extension.
I did a search for mpeg11 and nothing came up.

I think the file extension will likely be .mpg4

282 gig --yes would have been that many movies- yes were deleted in one go -they never went to recycle bin --just disapeared.

mystery -- last night an mpeg file went missing after i pressed de;ete never got to recycle bin my gigs were down to 58 from 182-- this morning i done a search-- in hidden file -changed folder options--search---- always show file name and contents---then done a system restore to find the one from last night ---lo and behold after starting i now have 189 gig back on hard drive :D

So I assume from your post that your problem is now resolved. Just so others who have the same or similar problems in the future it would help if we knew where all these movies came from in the first place?

cuda is an free video converter ans is fast compared to others--- files are converted to mpeg11 for use on my tv dvd player as will only play mpeg --have stored them on both laptop and external drive for use when travelling when no tv available---download movies from utube by clicking on screen and copy valid usb at the moment --add files to ilivid my free downloader---come down as mp4 --convert using cuda ,
after all this i now have 201 gig from 282 certainly problem solved

But a file with the MP4 file extension is an MPEG-4 Video file. Will that not play in the TV DVD player as, if the DVD player is old then, as an mpeg11 is a fairly recent development I would have thought that if mpeg11 plays then an mp4 should play!? So do you burn the mpeg11 files to a DVD disc to play in the TV DVD player?
