"Missing operaton system"

Hey,

So, after i cancelled a system restore that was stuck and didnt move for a decade i restarted my PC where I got an error message saying "missing operation system". No matter how many times i restart, this medsage comes up within the first 3 seconds of rebooting. I've tried entering the BIOS, but fails since the error comes up the second after the Asus logo. I've tried inserting a CD that I believe is the installation CD, but fails om this part aswell. Does anyone have any clue what I can do to fix this issue?

Since its my fathers pc i'm not quite sure of the model, but I'm sure that its an Asus Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bits laptop.

When you insert the CD, are you able to boot into the BIOS to change the boot order?

Can you even reach the BIOS?

If not, there's not much else we can do

No, that's the problem. Unfortunately, it seems like its a deadended case, but I won't stop trying, though. I got suggested by a friend to connect an existing harddrive from an another fully working PC, but that won't differ from any other external drives such as a dvd, usb or ext. ssd.

I'll try updating this thread tomorrow as I will look further into it.

If you could get hold of a different Working harddrive and plug that into the existing SATA Cable and see if that boots?

I'm not technically skilled with the insides of a laptop, but I believe its the same as on a desktop with smaller parts, aye?

When you first hit the power ON button, start taping the F8 or the F11 key rapidly to see if you can get a Bios Menu screen ?

Ohh its a laptop, belongs it the same size (inch wise) on the bottom of the laptop there should be a marked panel, un-screw that, and you should see a HHD... Pull that out and clip yours in... No cables

I've tried both F1-F12 in addition to delete. Nothing seems to respond.

Not even a SATA? Could I connect my flashdrive from my desktop to his laptop despite its small size? Or do I need an SSD?

Aight, I'll see what I can do! If mine doesnt fit, I assume he can sacrifice his files and buy a new computer or get it repaired at some professionals - we'll see! Thanks alot for the help, and I'll update the thread tomorrow if there's anything noteworthy.

Your hard drive in your dad's laptop will not start Windows - keep that in mind. It would just test to see if it will boot with a different hard drive.

You could just remove the hard drive and start the laptop without one. If all is well with the laptop you should be able to get into the BIOS. Asus laptops use F2 to enter BIOS. Use ESC to open a boot menu to access optical drive.

You start pressing the key the second you see the BIOS screen.
