Missing Restore Points

Last I looked at my Restore Points (about 3 weeks ago) I had about 13-15 Restore Points. I looked at them today and only have 5. As you can see by the attachments, I have allocated ample room for many more Restore Points.
I guess my question would be - do Restore Points get flushed on a regular basis?

Best regards
JohnnyA

They are not supposed to get deleted unless your storage is to small.
Yours isn't, you have plenty at 27GB.

Mike

Never mind. I just realized you had it checked.

Yes, if you do certain disk maintenance operations, they may get flushed (e.g. Disk Cleanup). But they also seem to mysteriously disappear at times. You cannot really rely on system restore. The smart way is to make images instead (but not with Win7 imaging). Then you control the action yourself.

If you want to list the restore points, open an elevated Command Prompt (run as admin) and type: vssadmin list shadows - then hit Enter. They all have a timestamp.

Hi Hopalong - good to see you. No go, when I hit next it just wants to restore to the last Restore Point. Obviously I hit cancel. Using Shadow Explorer, it also only shows 5 Restore Points. Oh well, not a biggy, just a mystery. Being overly cautious I always have lots of Drive Images and File Backups on external storage so if distaster strikes I am ready. lol
Many thanks for your feedback.
Best regards

Hello mate.

As whs said, don't rely too much on System Restore as it has issues, but it is a good thing to try first in an issue.

Have a look at Method Two of this tutorial at he link below to have daily SR points auto-created.
