Every time I play a MKV file it crashes my computer. It seems it does not matter what media player it is playing on.

I have tried it on VLC v 1.1 mediaplayer and windows mediaplayer with a codec pack.

I have looked online and it seems many people are having the same issue, but noone has good insight on how or why it keeps happening.

It is a very frustrating issue.

Corrupted files perhaps?

Try The KMPlayer, WinAmp, or Splayer?

If none of those work with reasonable Codec pack installs, then the files are hosed.

The KMPlayer uses it's own codecs I believe and you can manipulate it within its options big time, so it's possible to troubleshoot odd issues, I changed the renderer for example and some videos that said they couldn't work, suddenly did, and it's my favorite player for videos, and fully capable for audio too, I just prefer another one for audio.

I hope that is useful.

Un-install all the codecs and install Zoom Player and at then end of the install there will be an Install Center Popup, install the apps and codecs there and then try VLC and Media Player.
Inmatrix.com - Zoom Player Download

I personally use Zoom Player since it is the most versatile player I have used, and has a good interface.

Most of the videos I watch are MKV based.
