Mobile ATi or NViDiA ??

Hello
I Believe in HP & I want to buy this Laptop HP DV6 :
Core i5-430M ,6 GB DDR3,500 GB (7200 RPM) ,and the ATI HD 5650 graphics
the question is about the graphics card : I think it would be great for Medium-High quality Gaming and Designing (3Ds Max , Maya , ....) what do u think ?
and like a lot of people said :
Will I get problems with this card ??? (high temperature, early troubles, and other issues)
And they say you wouldn't have these problems if it's NVIDIA one

Given nVIDIA's notorious negative history with mobile GPUs I would go for the ATi HD 5650.

Yeh, Nvidia havent quite got to grips with the mobile chipsets and do have well documented problems. Id stick with ATI for laptop graphics!

Had GTX 280M's in SLi that I swapped out due to latency issues which have since been resolved by nVidia but my 2 ATi 4870M's in CrossFireX were almost problem free, only saw one GPU full speed and the second one 1/2 speed but it straightened out on reboot.

Ugh! I wish I'd known about this when I bought my previous Toshiba Satellite! It had the nVidia GeForce 8700M GT. From the get-go, it had very strange problems, such as the screen resolution being reduced to the lowest upon bootup, UT2004 freezing with looping sound, then any media at all freezing with looping sound and eventually just BSOD after BSOD, always referencing something being wrong with the RAM or HDD, both of which tested fine in scans.

Now I'm wondering if all the problems I had with the damn thing weren't due to nVidia's incompetence.

Most likely. I'd normally recommend either but nVIDIA really ruined it's name for the mobile GPU market with that.

I use Nvidia for my desktop but their have been so many problems with laptops and Nvidias mobile grahics I'd go ATI.
Mmost Nvidia mobile or quite a few have had to have the,inf modified on older models to get them to work with Seven. Not sure about pre-loaded Seven with their graphics but sems ATI is getting a better review here so I'd say go with it. Fabe

Personally i have owned to very high end laptops a NP9262 and the one i am currently using a NP8120. I have never had any issues with any of my hardware if anything they have ran much better then i had expected, since i am a avid gamer i have always tried to find the best products and research everything pretty good before i made purchases. Call it luck or whatever i have never had a bad nvidia product.

But currently in the mobile gpu market i would have to say go for ati. More bang for your buck and not the same refreshed chipset over and over again. Although the new 480M's are coming or are out the the cost the performance ratio is well in favor of the ati cards. Maybe nvidia will gets is act together but for the time being i would get a ati 5870 if at all possible. Probably the best all around card on the market for mobile gamers if you are looking for a good cost to performance ratio.

Eh... I wouldn't really use laptops for gaming quite just yet if your current option is ATI. At least, not without checking what games you plan on playing on it. A lot of games tend to lean more to nVidia and some have some bad quirks with ATI that you have to hope ATI will have a newer Catalyst driver to make it work.

But as for everything else, I think ATI is fine.
