Is it possible for the "modified date" of a file to be inaccurate? Scenario, a picture file is stored on a usb flash drive. Can it be modified just by plugging the flash drive into a computer? Thanks in advance for the help!

It would help if you could describe your situation in more detail. Plugging in a flash drive will not change the modification date of any files it contains. But there are a number of utilities that can change the date so it cannot be fully relied on.

Thank you for your help. I found a flash drive with pictures on it and I'm just trying to see if the modified date has any validity to it. I don't know what constitutes as modifying a picture or how the modified date changes.

Windows doesn't seem to be consistent with creation nor modified dates. I think the act of opening a file, like looking at a picture, will be a modification.
