Money spent, drivers not updating. :(

Guys,

I am having a problem getting my USB 3.0 drivers updated so I can use displaylink software.

Here is the problem as discussed on the Displaylink forum..

Any help would be greatly appreciated as after spending close to £90 on the WPCTVPRO I would be a bit miffed if I cannot get it going.

Thanks, but that is the version that is already installed.

I want to update 2.0.32.0 with 2.01.032 before trying the final update as shown in the link in first post.

I can't believe that a top of the range Vaio that is little over a year old can not have it's USB 3.0 updated.

I have contacted Sony again asking them why it has cost me so much money to buy a top of the range Vaio off them that is basically out of date after a year.
Not impressed.

I have tried that before but the problem I am running into is the driver that the new update is trying to replace is version 2.01.032.
I have as the current driver 2.0.32.0. I therefore assume that as the expected driver 2.01.032 is not present it is not completing the update to the latest 2.1.36.0.
I have been trying to find 2.01.032 and update to that before trying the final update of 2.1.36.0.

Hi KBL, Sometimes you just have to run the install with admin rights , have you tried that ? http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/11841-run-administrator.html I have had many failed installs until I ran them under Admin

Another step closer... v2.1.36.0 installed, but get device error when plugging in transmitter.

But...

I think I may have solved the detection problem as well.
Because the USB transmitter for the WPCTVPRO does not fit into the USB port due to the shape of the Vaio, I am using an extension cable. I think that the cable would need to be a high speed one wouldn't it? Although, when I plug it into the USB 2.0 port it still is not detected, but have ordered a USB 3.0 cable and will test it then report back.

IF you've already researched this, then you're probably not going to be able to upgrade ... but ... I have a Renesas USB 3.0 controller chip on my motherboard and, when I went to update it from the NEC/Renesas site, I discovered that they have different files for different chips.

You have to find out the exact model of the chip -- mine is D720200F1; so, I downloaded and installed the following:
1) Firmware: Firmware v3.0.3.4 06-14-2-12
2) Drivers: v2.1.39.0 08-21-2012

That said, I ran some file xfer benchmarks after install the Renesas firmware and driver and discovered that the transfer was actually faster and more stable with the default Microsoft drivers.

Seems all drivers working ok.
USB 3 cable tested.
There is a change so far as the transmitter is now detected and flashes, but the system compatibility check still says it is not installed.

Ok, so as I have not been having much luck with this, I uninstalled the 7.4M software. Rebooted and then installed the 7.1M1 software and rebooted again.
Then plugged in the WPCTVPRO and now it gets detected, but as a Portable Drive!!!!

Grrrrrr.

May I ask what the obsession is with updating the drivers? Are you having issues? If not I see no reason to go through the frustrations you're going through just to have the latest driver.

Trust me I'm as obsessive as anyone here when it comes to having all my software / hardware, but even I draw a line at a certain point... especially when everything is telling me they don't work with the current system... which these are clearly telling you.

In short, it may be worth your while, and sanity, to just leave things as they are. Especially if there aren't any issues or problems.

Believe me, I would rather not be going through all this aggravation.
Basically, as pointed out in the original post, I bought a WPCTVPRO and am trying to get it to work.
