Monitor automatically turns black, and computer freezes after. HELP!

Hey guys. I'm new to this site and I am seeking help. See, my monitor turns to black like its going to sleep and then when i check my computer, its still working but freezes after the blackout. I've tried going to control panel and change the power options but it still crashes. It happens when i am searching the net, playing a game, or starting my computer. Any suggestions?? My system is Windows 7 Home Basic, Processor: Intel (R) Core (TM)2 Quad CPU Q8400 @ 2.66 GHz 2.67 GHz, Installed memory (RAM): 2.00 GB and it is a 32-bit Operating system. HELP!
