Monitor cleaning tip

Have tries all those proprietary cleaners for monitors but found the best is a few mls of cloudy ammonia a few of denatured spirit (Methylated ethyl alcohol - metho to us Aussies) and dilute to a litre with water apply with microweave or very soft cloth and the dry off - perfect for the cough spatters and grubby finger marks. Plus an almost dry application for the keyboard.

For the surround and stand some of that car interior vinyl cleaner brings it up like new and hides most small scratches can be used on cases too.

Be careful to use only slight pressure though

I hate to rain on your parade ICit2lol but if those few mls of ammonia can ruin the pexiglass on the monitors face.
I was told in spades one day by a fellow biker at a gas station when I was cleaning the bugs off the windshield of my Harley with windex (ammonia) then looked it up after and yes it breaks down the outer layer of the pexiglass and dulls the finish. So I assume the monitor has the same pexiglass qualities as my motorcycle windshield.
I just use windex for house windows that I know are glass and not pexiglass.

I've been using rubbing alcohol for laptop and tablet. Does wonders for finger prints. Removes sticker residue from those factory stickers.

Hum I had better research this a bit then I was only talking about say 5 - 10mls of ammonia and the proprietary brands of windows cleaner use ammonia maybe in a different form I used it on my Yammy Virago when I had it and it was certainly good for the waxy content of moths and grasshoppers.

I shall also have to seeing the monitor screens are in fact plexi cos the ones I have are soft and not like the ones we had on the bikes but I stand to be corrected you have made a good observation though

The other though I think is quite safe for the surrounds and stands / cases.

Hum drab thing wouldn't load Roderunner and yes Torrent I used that but here was real unpleasant grime that would not move but I do stand corrected on what I originally posted just i found it good for that film on the inside of the windshield and back window in my Mazda.

Nice & Clean Electronic Cleaning Wipes

Best thing for monitors I have ever used. My girlfriend picked these up and I didn't have a lot of faith in them at the beginning......I've never found an electronics wipe that worked. I was pleasantly surprised! They clean VERY well and leave just the tiniest bit of lint that comes right off with a microfiber cloth. No streaks, just a nice, clean screen. I use it for my monitor and both my Samsung TV's.

I buy the screen cleaner packaged for and sold by Data Doctors (come with its own microfiber cloth). It's the best stuff I've ever used. I use the large size at home and the small size when on the road.

I've used various kinds of LCD cleaners and they all had some problem or another. Worst were the gels; they always streaked horribly.

I use water, and a terrycloth towel. The water is free, and the towels are around (hopefully clean).

This is what is recommended by Panasonic for cleaning their large screen plasma TVs. They say to never use household cleaners or chemicals of any kind.

"If the surface is particularly dirty, soak a soft, lint-free cloth in a diluted mix of 1 part liquid dish washing soap to 100 parts water."

They also recommend not using paper cleaning products (paper towels, tissues, etc.) as these contain wood fibers that are abrasive to glass surfaces.

i use huggies pure babywipes, i wring it out first to get rid of excess lotion, give the screen a wipe over and then polish it gently with a microfiber cloth, .
spotless and cheap too.

+1 for water.
I've used a couple of cleaner's bought from shops and found them all to smear. So now i just use a slightly damp soft cloth. Using a tiny amount of luke warm water

I am sure you guys know what you are talking about, but I would still do what the biker told me, even if it was wrong.
