one of my colleagues has a problem on her machine completely the same O/S where after a time her monitor dims. The display comes back to normal only on a key press event not a mouse move or anything

i have trawled through the power settings and intel graphics settings and been on many web sites claiming to have a fix this problem for this problem but when i try their suggestion often it either doesn't work or the option that they are suggesting isn't there.:mad::mad::mad:

can any one help with this problem ??

Is it a laptop or desktop? What are the system specs? Might be something wrong with the screen itself, if it's a desktop, test the screen on another computer and report back with results.

If it is a desktop, check the monitor menu and see if there is a setting related to this "dimming" that you are experiencing.

Is the mouse a wireless mouse? That may be the reason the screen doesn't brighten back up on a mouse move. The dimming is a normal power saving function. Get back to us and let us know if it's a laptop or a desktop. That could also make some difference.

Ok, I think the graphics card is the suspect here. Is it a NVIDIA card? Try the settings; right-click on the desktop, go to 'NVIDIA COntrol Panel', under Display go to 'Adjust desktop color setting' and select 'Use Nvidia settings'. See if it works.

Another option might be bad cooling. See if it still happens if you take the side-panels off for example. Or use a tool to monitor the temperature of the graphics card. Let us know what temperature it says it is.
