Monitor doesn't get signal

So, today, when I woke up, I turned on my monitor and surprise. Nothing. So I said to myself, "Again that f**king monitor showing nothing ". So I did what I do habitually when this happen : unplug and re-plug the DVI cable. Nothing. Yay... >_>

So, I also tried re-pluging it at my video card. Nothing.
Tried with the VGA cable I had. Nothing.
Tried un-pluging and replug power. Nothing.

I had no more time so I left for my last day of work.

During the day, I had thought of two things :
1. The video card fried
2. The display port of the monitor, somehow, fried.

So, when I came home, I unplugged it and plugged it back on a old Celeron 700MHz with a very old graphic card on VGA. Nothing.

So, I decided to take it to my dad's home and try it out. Plugged it on VGA on the DVI adapter (the DVI adapter was too difficult to remove, so I only tried VGA). It worked!!

So, I can take that the monitor still works fine.

Also, I don't see the BIOS or anything when it's plugged. (On both my PC or my dad's). When Windows starts, I have to turn off and turn the monitor back on and it showed my dad's WinXP.

It started after I installed Win7 RC in French last night. I forgot to turn off the "turn monitor off after 'x' time" and after, I closed myself the monitor and went to bed (and left the PC open).

Also forgot to remove my USB flash drive - leaving the LED on. In the morning, the LED was off.

The monitor still shows the messages that it doesn't receives signal.

I think of :
- Monitor going bad
- Graphic card defective

WinXP Pro SP3 (legit)

The old PC

Celeron 700MHz
320MB (64MB + 256MB) of RAM (DDR1)
Voodoo III 64MB
20GB of Hard drive
Hacked WinXP with no graphic drivers

Hi Lebon,

If the monitor shows the no signal bit, then probably not that. Have you tried your Dad's monitor on your computer? If it works, try booting into safe mode (info here if needed: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/666-advanced-boot-options.html) and reinstalling the cards driver.

try resetting your bios

unplug power from your computer
(if nessary) take graphics/video card out(if it covers up the battery on your mobo)
take out the battery on the mobo(dont touch the underside of battery)
there should be a jumper somewhere really close to the battery, it should be n a 3 plug area only covering 2 of the prongs, take it off and make it cover the middle and the 1 it didnt cover.
now put the batter back, plug power back in and hit ur pc's power button.(dont freak out when your computer doesnt turn on this is exactly what you want to happen. if the computer did turn on you did the wrong jumper.)
now unplug the power and unplug the battery again and move the jumper back to the orginal state it was in and put battery back and plug power back in and that should make it work.

if not then ya your gfx/vid card is dead.

Everything is back up and running fine...
Who is the culprit? Windows 7's hibernate mode and probably the graphic driver along (those over Windows update).

I tried Gary's suggestion and brought one of the two monitors my dad and tried it. That didn't did it.

So, what I finally did is that I changed the graphic card for an ATi Radeon X600 Pro I had in my closet. Plugged the PC back with the 17" I had brought over from my dad's. Windows Seven seemed to be ****ed at coming back from sleep. Then, I took my install CD and went back using the system restore. I was able to log back into Windows 7.

Then, I shut down my PC, put back the GeForce 8500 GT and put the 17" monitor back on. Ta-da. Worked fine now Disconnected it again, put back the panels and here I am.

So the lesson for today kids is :
1. NEVER EVER install drivers from Windows Update
2. NEVER EVER put your computer into Hibernate mode.

Glad you got it sorted out. I've not tried hibernate in W7 as I've heard of problems. I use sleep. I have heard of some probs. with that too, but I haven't had any with the RC so far. In 7000 I would lose mouse or keyboard functionality once in a while, but a reboot always fixed it.
