[Monitor] Is this normal?

Hello,

I get some horizon lines sometimes on one of my screens, they ain't coloured, just gray and dark. I have two screens, the one which is doing it, is running 1680x1050. The lines hang in 0.5-1sec only. My GPU is around 49-57 celsius.
When I move my monitor, the lines it also appearing, and the brightness is adjusting.


First of all. Is it normal to have a GPU on 49-57 celsius?

Have you made sure the cable connections on the video card and the monitor are tight? From what you describe that it happens when moving the monitor, sounds like the cable is loose.

Please have a look at the picture below. It came to my mind that I have some sort of .. gray .. I don't know what I use it for. Maybe It's because they doesn't fit in. I'll try

Ough! And is it normal to have such GPU on that temperature. If you know the software called SpeedFan, it had a symbol to the right from the GPU, and it was a "flame". Still the GPU was like 52C. If it's high or not, I don't know.

Lol, you can even see the dust.

The Right cable is the one making lines, the Left cable is my second monitor not making lines.

Again, is it normal to have that celsius?

Hi FredeGail. Have you tried swapping the monitor connections to see if the problem moves to to other monitor?

johnnya - Do you mean like swapping the cables opposite? Or swapping which direction your cursor moves at the end of the screens?

No lines by far. I'll report back if it's still happening. If it's returning, I'll name it a faulty monitor.

Looking at that picture you posted, definitely make sure that all the screws are tight. With using the DVI-VGA adapter that just makes one more connection and 2 more screws to check. Also make sure there is nothing pushing down on either monitor cable that could cause tension in the DVI port on the video card.

As for the temperature, if that is the idle temp then it is OK. Also depends on how clean the fan and heatsink on the card are and what kind of aiflow there is through the case. The important temperature to watch for is what it gets up to when there is a load on the card from a game or something.

I see, and ah, I have two brand new fans on my table right here. So if it's going to like 80C (which I don't think is going to happen) then i'll install them.

I booted up my computer, and immediately ran the SpeedFan. The GPU was on like 41-42C and I could just watch it go up all the way to 51-54C .. Is it normal that it's developing the temperature that fast?
Or does it depends on how cold/warm the room is when the computer is on shutdown?

Yes it is normal for it to go up like that after turning the computer on. It goes from whatever the room temperature is up to its idle operating temperature.

Also stop worrying about the idle temp, which is OK. The temperature to worry about is what it gets to when you play a game or something.
