Ive been running various builds of 7 since early this year and been very happy with them but now im just plain fed up.
My problem is my monitor keeps going off after the PC isnt used for a certain amount of time (seems like around 15mins) and i cant get it back on other than to hit reset or off and on again on the box.
This cant be good for the OS and its not good for any programs that were open at the time.
Ive got all the power save functions turned off so nothing should be sleeping or shutting down but it makes no difference.
My GFX card (ATI HD2600XT) is using up to date drivers so nothing need updating.
I had this a while ago with a few builds but ti settled down but now its happening every time i go away form the PC.

Got me thinking, why am i even bothering with 7 when XP was working fine anyway. Guess i just like to mess things up.

hey fliplip

hello again I have an idea. Try booting in safe mode and see if it goes into coma. If not you can go into msconfig and find what is causing it.

Hope this helps

Ken

Hi Ken.
Thanksfor the reply. I'll be sure to give that ago once ive checked out a few more things.
At the moment ive disabled the Power service to see if that makes a difference.
It could well be a driver issue though as i have lost signal to the monitor a couple of times recently when i was using the PC, doing video editing.
Ill keep you posted.

Dave.

Well i took your advice and tried safe mode. That seemed to work ok, had it on for a few hours while i went out.
I went back to normal mode and un installed and deleted the graphics driver, rebooted and W7 re installed the default one. That looked promising as my PC was on all evening.
Turned the monitor off when i went to bed and this morning blank screen again. Slightly different as the monitor wasn't saying no signal and the screen wasnt off, there was signal going to it but it was black (if that makes sence).
Ive tried the updated ATi driver as well but same result. Ill give it a few more days thne might go bakc to XP. W7 doesnt actually offer me anything over W7, other than it seems to be a bit slower but thne my XP instal was about two years old so needed cleaning out.
