Monitor not detected after sleep

OK, so this is a repost from a year ago (I got no replies then and I still have the problem) so maybe someone will see this and have some advice:

I have an odd problem. I have a pc running windows 7 64 with an ati hd4770. I have it outputting to two displays: a 1080p monitor near the computer (in the home office) and to a 1080p lcd tv ~60 feet away in the living room. Both are being driven by the dual DVI outputs on the card.

This generally works well but lately I'll turn on the tv (and wake the computer) and the pc will not recognize the TV as being connected and will not output a signal. This usually happens overnight (so it won't work the next morning). There is no power saving set up on the pc except for shutting off the displays after 20 minutes. This does not happen every night, but maybe 2-3 times a week.

The other monitor works fine (I never loose it) and when I look in the settings only that monitor is detected.

Sometimes a reeboot works, sometimes just plugging/ unplugging the HDMI cable int he back of the TV. When the reboot does NOT work, I always get the BIOS screen at least on the TV, and the windows start with the little coloured balls doing their dance and then I loose it again at the login screen.

When it is up and we're using it I never loose it, even for high throughput stuff like blu-ray.

So I figure it is a problem with the TV not outputting a strong enough signal back to the computer to let it know it exists.

Anyway, I want to know if there is a way to force 1080p 60 hz output on both of the graphics card outputs regardless of what is detected. Should be a way....

I did try to switch the outputs on the card. Didn't seem to make a difference.

Thanks,

Cisco

Ok Cisco mate seeing as you have been very patient I'll, kick off but am no expert on this sort of stuff so for starters I am assuming you have the drives all up to date for the GPU?

Just in case AMD Catalyst

Mate for the small amount of time it takes try these

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1538-sfc-scannow-command-system-file-checker.html

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/433-disk-check.html
then these for eliminating any of that sort of stuff.

Thanks for replying.

The file checker came back OK, as did malware, virus scan, etc. My AMD catalyst version is 11.4. Last time I tried to update it it wouldn't play nice with one of my games. That was a while ago though so maybe it is time to try again. I'll attempt to upgrade to the latest CCC tonight and let you know.
I'd be surprised if that was the issue though. I think that with the long (60') DVI cable the signal from the TV identifying itself to the computer sometimes gets lost. I could be wrong though...

Thanks again,

Cisco

No Cisco you could be right mate the signal over that sort of distance I wouldn't be surprised if it degraded or had some level of loss. The only other thing I acan think of is maybe there is some radio frequency interference along the way??

There maybe some power lines in the walls, but they don't interfere with the signal being sent TO the TV. The interesting thing about this is that everything is good as long as I don't turn the TV off. The card seems quite capable of sending a strong enough signal though the 60 ', but the monitor can't send its identification back to the PC (that is how I see it at least).
If this is true, all I need to do is force the video card to ignore the monitor handshaking, etc and simply output 1080p @ 60 Hz. You would think there would be a way to do this (since this is how cards used to work before all the PNP stuff came along) but I can't figure it out. Maybe I should post in the AMD forums. Maybe some ATI developer dude may have a command line solution...

Well Cisco you could if you want post there but there are a quite a few members here that are AMD centred so I might just ask for some help if that is ok with you?

Are you using and adaptor from HDMI to DVI at the PC end? If so try connecting directly to the HDMI output on the GPU.

The cable itself is DVI to HDMI (so no adaptor). There is no HDMI output on the GPU, only 2 X DVI.

Sorry, no idea what card I was looking at first time round. I can't add anything more than has been offered already unfortunately except for maybe stop your PC from going to sleep if that's when it happens.
