Monitor ran fine with 75Hz, Now with new computer the picture gets :(

Hi.. Sorry for weid title but i could fit funny there so i put a sad face instead.
So on my last computer with nvidia gt 430 gpu i oc'd my monitor to 75Hz (Freaking loved that speed)
Now with the gtx 660 when i oc the exact same monitor to 75Hz the picture gets messed up and the resolotion gets completely out of the normal. i did set the pixel ratio to 1600x900 that is the stock one..
Is there a colour setting on the monitor i have to fix or is it another thing?
If i way worse gpu can handle it so should a gtx 660 i feel...

First, check the box that says 'hide modes that this monitor cannot display'. Is 75 still listed? If it is, let me know.

Oh no im using custom resolution setting and the evga monitor overclocker tool, becouse if i did what you said it would only go with 60hz I managed to get the monitor to 68hz (my secondary monitor) and my main Dvi monitor to 66Hz, i think though that getting a dual link dvi coord will help me get to atleast 70hz. becouse i care the most with my main monitor becouse its the one i work and play on the most obviously

ok. and my prob was? also, the thing that happens with the monitor at that refresh rate is that the reslolution gets messed up

You should really be running it at 60 Hz

It should be 60Hz, no more, no less. Is the picture is fuzzy at 60Hz, you have some other problem such as not adjusting the monitor to its native resolution.

LCD monitors ain't as forgiving and the old CRT ones were.

If its an LCD monitor refresh rate does not matter, they don't refresh like a CRT does. The LED's are either on or off, they don't "refresh". Leave it at 60 HZ if that's what the manual says. Increasing it will have no effect on the picture quality. You should also be running it at the native resolution. Anything else is going to degrade the picture quality. The image on a CRT monitor has to be constantly refreshed by the electron beam in the CRT. At low refresh rates it can cause flicker and give you a head ache. LCD's monitors do not flicker like CRT's do. IMHO there is absolutely no point in trying to overclock an LCD monitor. There really isn't anything to be gained by doing it.

okey. i have seen what you have said. i have been running my old monitor a long time with about 70Hz
And now im running both monitors with 66Hz. I just need to say that Sure 60Hz is nice but having the monitors at 66Hz does a ton of difference. Sure the mouse and windows does move smoother but bearly noticable so its just in the margin or error. but after long periods of sitting in front of the monitor you just feel a lot more eased eye and brainwise. even that small increase is such an ease on you. quite interesting. though the picture quality is exactly as good.. also quite interesting, Though if im running 6Hz faster than the monitors are "made" for. What dangers could this cause? I have only seen that extreme oc may just burn the monitor but 75Hz is not anything risky at all, so 66Hz would not decrease lifetime and increase heat by very much at all

Well in my computer specs it tells you what it is but they are both lcd. are there even crt monitors out there to buy?

But though i would not run such a powerful machine with dual monitros if they were CRT monitors XD No but really.. just why shouldnt i be oc'ngmy monitor, i have runned them 2 days straight now without them getting hotter than normal and without bad quality, they are just as normal but everyithing runs smoother and better

Sure, it's fine to run them that way, it is your stuff. You have read what we all recommend. Like any hardware that's artificially forced to run beyond it's engineered capabilities, it will wear out faster.

Yeah im aware of that.. but totaly worth it for feeling much more eased while using the computer.. Also when the monitors die i will just get a pair of 120-144hz monitors (just becouse they are awesome for desktop use i will never reach thoose fps with my computer) and also when thoose monitors die i will also have a much better economy...

Ok then, bumping up the refresh rate above the recommended isn't going to make your picture better or any easier on your eyes.

Unlike a HDTV that artificially adds frames by looking at the previous frame, and the next and calculating what the extra frame should be, an LCD monitor would just display the extra frames (75 vs 60). In theory, that would result in smoother video, since the change between one frame and another is quicker. IF the monitor supports the higher frequency, then there would be no harm in running it at the higher rate. But most monitors will not support 75Hz, at least at higher resolutions.

Look at this tutorial, and look at all supported rates. If a 75Hz rate is listed, note the screen resolution.

Good point. Yes, they both play a part, your video card has to support what your monitor wants. If you had a CRT monitor connected and looked at the screen you posted you'd see a lot more options with something other than the 60Hz at the end. Anyway, I had my say and I'm not going to debate it any more. It's his gear and he can do what he wants with it. I don't think anything is going to blow up as a result of what he is doing I just don't see the point in doing it is all.
