Monitor Resolution out of range when trying to set 1680x1050

I´ve b7057 x64 + ATI 4850 + EIZO HD2442W (DVI cable) and looking in user manual there is written that it supports 60Hz in 1920x1200 but in W7 its set
to 59Hz but in OSD on monitor is 60Hz. In control pan. I can choose between
59 and 60Hz but after restart it´s set 59Hz. Any solution how to fix it permanently to 60Hz?

I've had the same problems to on all the Builds since the Beta release and the only time I've had it stick was when I was using the latest Windows 7 driver from Nvidia, unfortunately that doesn't help you as you have an ATI, so I guess you will have to wait until they make a fully compatible driver.

Thanks for reply! I worried about it if this non-standard frequency 59Hz couldn´t harm my new EIZO beast :)

No I am sure that it wont harm it being 1Hz lower, if was higher maybe but not lower.

I have a 8800GT with the latest Nvidia Drivers, using Windows 7 64-bit. I have a 20 inch widescreen LG Flatron L204WT using the VGA cable. It also has a DVI input, but it has never worked.

Windows 7 Beta 7000 had already compromised performance of the VGA connection from Windows XP.

I don't like the 1600x1050 resolution. Instead I use 1280x768. I have to set the refresh rate to 75Hz to achivethe perfect picture though. And there is no problem with this, because the monitor offically supports it.

Now Windows 7 Beta doesn't let me specify more than 60Hz, even after I install the LG "driver" files. This results in a less sharp image.

With the Release Candidate things got severly worse. I still can only get 59Hz or 60Hz, using the latest drivers from Nvidia and the monitor "driver" files from LG, but now I can only use the monitor at 1600x1050, and it always switches back to 59Hz. If I put any other resoltuion, the monitor's image shrinks to the center of the screen. Pressing the Auto configuration button on the monitor has the effect of pushing the shrinked image to the left.

More, when I look the setting on the monitor, it tells me ALWAYS, whatever the resolution I have set up, that I have 1600x1050 at 60Hz. Windows 7 is definetly not communicating with the monitor properly.

This is a severe fault that, despite all the good things about Windows 7, will prevent me from using it. I'm reverting back to XP until this is solved. And no, increasing the DPI is not the solution for me.

Is there any solution for the problem ?

Thanks!
windows 7 is using the "native settings" for the display, you could try installing rivatuner to force the settings you want, but the monitor doesnt support 75hz at the resolution that you want. with a lcd you dont need to push more than 60hz, there is no refresh line like on a CRT

Thanks, but it is not normal for Windows 7 to not display any other resolution properly other than the maximum one. There is obviously a problem with either Windows 7 or the Nvidia Drivers.

And it doesn't let me select 75Hz either for no reason. Mind you, this happens with the "Generic PnP Monitor" profile or the LG files which I installed on both OS'es. The monitor drivers I'm using are exactly the same under both Win XP SP3 and Win 7 RC, so there is no apparent reason for Windows 7 to be using the antive settings.

And, no, the monitor DOES support 1280x768 @ 75hz, I can post a picture of the Monitor OSD and Win XP SP3 if you want. Either way, I've been running it at this resolution since I bought the monitor, in March 2007!

If I set the refresh rate lower than 75Hz at this resolution it won't display properly. I know an LCD's refresh rate is not the same as in a CRT, but it DOES affect what you see on screen.

At this resolution I have perfect clarity. Who says monitors are only good at their maximum resolution? I find this perfect for long working hours with perfect clarity.

windows should let you select the other resolutions that the monitor supports. Have you tried plugging in a different monitor to see if it shows more resolution options?

Grab the latest Nvidia win7 driver and install it. A new driver was just released on May 6th

Thanks, I have downloaded the Windows 7 64-bit drivers from Nvidia's site today, 2 hours before posting, so I should be up to date.

The question is not quite like you are putting it, Windows 7 lets me select other resolutions, the problem is that it doesn't display them correctly.

For example, if I set it to 1280x768 or 1280x720, the image shrinks to the middle of the screen, the rest being black. Everything is clear, but alas, small. Using the monitor's Auto Image Adjustment just shifts the shrinked image to the left of the screen. Not a single resolution gets displayed properly, except 1680x1050.

And my monitor's OSD says everytime the same thing: I'm running at 1680x1050 @ 60Hz, even if I'm running at an abnormally shrinked 1280x768 @ 59hz.

On the other hand, in Windows XP everything works fine, the Monitor's OSD displays exactly what I'm running. If I select 60Hz, the OSD says 60Hz, if I select 75Hz it says 75Hz. The same with the resolution.

Bear in mind, this is the same computer, two partitions, dual boot Win XP Home Edition SP3 and Win 7 64-bit.

ok, so you want it to stretch the image across the screen.

open the nvidia control panel, go under display to change flat panel scaling. change it to "use nvidia scaling" and see if that sets it to what you want. if not trying the next option down "nvidia scaling with fixed ratio"

you can also try going to the custom resolution settings in the nvidia manager, to force it to use your 75hz refresh rate.

you can also try going to the custom resolution settings in the nvidia manager, to force it to use your 75hz refresh rate.

Problem solved! Hoooray!!!!

I tried to find the LCD section, but my Nvidia Control Panel must think that I have a CRT monitor because there is a "Move CRT screen position", but nothing related to LCD Flat Panel.

Anyway, while I was actually using the monitor in a shrinked 1280x768 @ 59Hz I went into "Manage Custom Resolutions" and created a custom one of 1280x768 with my favourite 75Hz refresh rate. As soon as I pressed OK, the screen went normal! And now I have the 75Hz in the windows monitor tab too! And the OSD reports the correct resolution and refresh rate! Everything just like in XP!

So, any ideas where is the culprit ? Is it the Nvidia Drivers ? Or is it Windows 7 ? Or is it both ?

Anyway, I hope other users don't have to fine tune their systems like this when Windows 7 goes gold, although this is actually simple to solve once you find a way around it! I never thought I would actually use the Nvidia control panel for something practical! LOL

Again, problem solved! I can now start thinking about making the transition to Windows 7.

Many thanks for all you help ccatlett1984! More than deserved rep is on the way!

Hello all,

I was also having problem like this. Spent few mins and got working. :D

Its due to 59hz refresh rate.

Right click on desktop -> Screen Resolution -> Advanced Settings -> List All Modes -> Select "1680 by 1050, True Color (32 Bit), 59 Hertz" -> Ok

Hope it works for you....
Best Regards

My sister just installed a new hard drive and Windows 7 on her desk-top, and reinstalled the programs, and I came in to do her accounting on her software. I asked why the fonts and icons were all so big and she said she hadn't had time to reset them yet. We went into the control panel, the display settings were already on small, so we went in and tried to change the resolution up one level. The screen immediately went blank, but showed the "out of range" error message. I am not as technically able as the others on this forum, but tried getting into the set-up before the drivers for the screen loaded to see if I could change the resolution back. I think this might have been possible with my older OS, but it doesn't seem to be possible with Windows 7.
This means I cannot see how to get in to change the resolution back when I can't get past the boot-up before the screen blanks. Can anyone help?

This is very bad. If you had pressed esc button on keyboard after you got "out of range" message, may be the screen had reverted. But your pc is now rebooted and the screen resolution is saved.

hmm, let see if somebody replies or else I will try researching. In the meantime you can try uninstalling display driver in safe mode and see if you can get the display in normal windows mode. :)

Good luck...
Best Regards
